Its beutiful and heartwarming to see!!!

    I dont wanto be a joy-killer – and I would like to raise a question/point:
The gown worn at the graduation is apparently a recent Phenomena amongst the frum community (by recent, I mean post WW2, when we left Europe).

According to my finding is not only a pure goy’ishe idea, but its conception in from the Church. You can look it up online or else ware.

In my opinion, it still has a goy’ishe taste, so why do we do it?

I commend Bais Chaya Mushka (for THIS aspect) that the graduation has a more Yiddishe ta’am.

Wishing everyone all the best and a great summer!

  • smart mom

yup i agree with proud ch-er
i too did research in to this idea and found that it comes from avodah zora.
why put such a thing on our precious pure children?

may the other schools in crown heights follow beis chaya mushkas example in the graduation way of dress and many more things!!!

  • ???

is that the whole 8th grade? is it just the way the pic looks or did the school/grade really shrink?

  • TOSHAV HASHECHUNA

I THINK IT’S TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE FOR MEN TO ATTEND A GIRLS GRADUATION. REMEMBER, THESE GIRLS ARE WAY OVER BAS MITZVAH, THEY’RE UP ON A STAGE FOR ALL TO SEE, AND THEY, ALONG WITH THEIR (WOMEN) TEACHERS, ARE THE SPEAKERS.

MY COMPLAINT IS NOT WITH THE MEN AS NO FATHER WANTS TO TAKE A STAND AND HAVE HIS DAUGHTER BE THE ONLY ONE WHOSE FATHER DIDN’T ATTEND. BUT THERE’S NO GOOD REASON THAT THE SCHOOL DOESN’T CHANGE THE POLICY TO ‘WOMEN ONLY’.

  • Hallo

    Proud Ch-er, I dont get you….
its like saying, well, we shouldnt use regular candles to light shabbas candles, bc they use that in the church…
    common a lil’ tact…

  • GrowingOnGowns

    Re: Proud
While it’s true that Academic Dress is derived from those worn in medieval universities of Europe. There is no religious significance in the outfit. It was worn for practical reasons (quote from wikipedia "town and gown" :
"The gown proved comfortable for studying in unheated and drafty buildings and thus became a tradition in the universities. The gown also served as a social symbol, as it was impractical for physical work. (Compare with the gowns worn by Chinese officials.) The hood often was adorned with the colors of the school and designated the young scholar’s university affiliation. Thus by their distinctive clothing, the students were set apart and distinguished from the citizens of the town; hence the phrase ‘town and gown’."

Today, this garb is used to add Simcha to the graduate and the graduate’s family.

But since there has to be a controversy about everything…:)

  • a parent

i am a parent of a beis rivkah girl and i was trying hard this year that the girls shouldn’t wear gowns! whats the differents between a hat or a gown there both shtus, shtus, shtus!! if the problom with jeens is that the goyim were it even more gowns! anyways it was a stunning graduation! keep up the good work!
p.s. dont u think it’s a little not tznyus to put up pic. of girls on a website that gets 100’s of guys every day!
att: growingongrows- how does the gown bring more simcha?

  • gown issue

    regarding the gown:

I am a mother of one of the graduates, and did some research also. The gowns were, as already mentioned by GrowingOnGowns wrote, they were fpr practical use in large stone unheated buildings. The caps were a little more controversial, and therefore dropped. To wear the uniform that is worn the last 4 yrs, IMHO, dilutes the occassion. This milestone should be acknowledged, it insures the tznius while up on stage, etc.

And besides all, why must EVERY news item find a criticism?!? GET A LIFE!

  • gosh

omg!! whenever something nice is going on, someone has to mess it up, just keep your comments to yourself!

  • a loving concerned parent

Oh my… How ridiculous are we!!! Now we are too religious to have our dear Tattis at graduation? If fathers and mothers would be together on every thing maybe we wouldn’t have so many unhappy and lost children in our community!!!!
STOP ALWAYS FINDING EVERYTHING WRONG!!! After all our dear REBBE embraced us all or half of us wouldn’t be here!!!!!GET A LIFE

  • friend!

go chaya and chanale and chanie and chaya and faiga and avigail and leba and cherry and faiga and chaya and mussie and mushkie and mushkie and whoever else i no!!!!

  • attn TOSHAV HASHECHUNA:

btw, the only men who go to the graduation are the relatives of one of the graduates! they arent coming to see girls! they are coming to see their sister, daughter, cousin or something!

  • to toshav hashechuna

what about the mothers who go to the boys graduation?
is it any different?b/c the rebbies are there.
do you go alone to your sons graduation?
and what about pta, and any other time when a parent meets with a teacher of the opposite gender?
and what about walking down the street?
or talking to a female cashier? or asking for directons?
c-mon, we are not like that, maybe we should be, I don’t now better, but this are our daughters, every proud parent looks only at his own kid , it’s not like they are singing.

  • To proud ch-er and all other of THOSE pe

yeh… okey proud ch-er its good you post your comments here… you a sserious LOSER. if you are commenting something good , then by being a proud ch-er you MUST comment something bad too otherwise you are not considered a proud ch-er. and if you want your kids not to wear gowns then go ahead and send them to beis chaya mushka. if your coming to put down beth rivkah, it aint gonna work. and to that mom who agrees with proud ch-er. what the hell are you sitting on this website and commenting … thats very mature for you to do. but to tell you the truth im not surprised. you ch-ers are all full of the same garbage

  • Proud Tatty

The last time I looked I was a parent too. I wouldnt miss a graduation. It shows your daughter that you care about her and her future.

  • Beis Rivkah 8th grader

men are able to join because it’s a family member and not any other man

  • chani

There is such positivity in a graduation – why are some people looking for all thenegativity? Fathers can totally attend their daughters graduation – not only could but SHOULD; and if you have a problem with the gowns – there are so many things we do today that have "goyish"roots – (like a white wedding gown) – You can’t be so crazy. I think that some people think that a good frum person is someone who judges other people’s tznius and behaviors while enveloping themselves in a cloak of righteousness. But Chabad was always different. If you want that, move to Lakewood!

  • brothers

chaya posner you did awesome we so proud of you your brothers and bros inlaw

  • Observer at the graduation

I agree with Chani. You said it all!! The graduation was beautiful and "tochendik". Did you notice the presentation of the six million pennies and the new project that was initiated or did you just observe the "gowns"?
Let’s stop focusing on the negative. This website should be banned. And it’s a pity, since Webby does a great job posting the beautiuful photos and writing the informative articles. People should stop writing "rechilus". Focus on the beauty of our wonderful community and the good things that are done here. Stop writing the negative and stop picking!!!

  • The Correct Counter

No!! Bais Rivkah did not shrink!!! If you see a limited amount of girls, the reason is because Webby did not take a complete picture. There is another whole half of the stage that was not included in the picture. Boruch Hashem and bli ayin Hara, there were over 120 graduates. Bais Rivkah is and continues to be the favorite and "top" school. If you think is shrunk since the last time you were there, then "think again".

  • CHANALE GOPIN

Mushky Deitsch i am so happy for you are the best you rock you are so cute your best cuz

  • US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DEAR MUSHKY:
YOURE THE BEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSTTTTTTT YOU LOOKED SOOOO GOOD!!!! WERE SOOOOO PROUD OF YOU! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! C YOU IN HS!!!
    LOVE
    US
    PS. FEH!

  • SMART MOM

    DEAR ALL,
MANY OF THE COMMENTERS FOR THIS POST WERE PUTTING DOWN OTHER SCHOOLS OR BOSTING ABOUT THEIR SCHOOL.
I SEE NO POINT IN SUCH CONDUCT!!
WE ALL HAVE THE SCHOOL WE LIKE AND WE SEND OUR CHILDREN TO THAT SCHOOL OF COURSE!!
ALL PROUD CH-ER AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CLARIFY WAS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GOWNS SINCE IT COMES FROM GOYIM/AVODA ZORAH/ THE CHURCH…..
IF SOMEONE FEELS THAT ADOPTING THINGS FROM CHURCHES IS TOTALLY FINE
( ATT: HALLO. YOU DEFENITELY GOT A SENCE OF HUMOR!!! COMPARING CANDLE STICKS TO THE GOWN?! GIVE ME A BREAK! C’MON YOUR SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO!
THE GOWNS STARTED BY THE GOYIM IN THE CHURCH AND WERE ‘INVENTED’ FOR THAT REASON.
CANDLES ON THE OTHER HAND WERE NOT MADE FOR THAT REASION
AND IN NO WAY EVEN LOOK LIKE THEY ARE ADOPTED FROM THE CHURCH!
YOUR FUNNY BUT THERE IS A LIMIT………)
GO AHEAD AND DO THAT BUT DONT DENY THE FACT THAT IT DOES COME FROM THE CHURCH AND THAT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE ALTHOUGH YOU DONT MIND IT.
I JUST WANT TO POINT OUT ONE THING, THAT I THINK OUR SHCHUNA OR AT LEAST THIS WEBS COMMENTERS MUST KEEP IN MIND AT ALL TIMES:
ALL THE SCHOOLS IN CH ARE THE BEST IN THEIR UNIQUE WAYS, WE ALL GO FOR DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE THINK ARE IMPORTANT FOR OUR CHILDRENS CHINUCH AND KEEPING THAT IN MIND WE CHOOSE A SCHOOL THAT WE THINK WILL BE THE BEST FOR OUR CHILD.
WE DON’T NEED TO PUT DOWN OTHER SCHOOLS IF WE HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE SCHOOL WE SEND OUR KIDS TO AND KNOW THAT FOR US IT IS THE BEST. JUST A SIDE POINT I’VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS THAT PEOPLE TEND TO PUT OTHER SCHOOLS DOWN WHEN THEY THINK WHAT THEY ARE SENDING THEIR KIDS TO IS NOT THE BEST.
PLEASE GIVE EVERY SCHOOL THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE. AND YES BEIS RIVKA IS STILL THE BEST EVEN WITH THE GOWNS AND YES BNOS MENACHEM IS STILL THE BEST EVEN WITH THE GOWNS AND YES BEIS CHAYA MUSHKA IS THE BEST TAKING ON NOT TO WEAR THE GOWNS AND MANY OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS OTHER SCHOOLS DON’T DO!! WE ALL LOVE AND RESPECT EACH OTHER!!!
JUST ANOTHER SMALL POINT TO PONDER ON: IF CH.INFO POSTS SOMTHING BEUTIFULL LIKE A GRADUATION OR SOMTHING OF THE SORT AND SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON IT IF IT IS NOT THE MOST POSITIVE THING THAT WILL ADD TO THE SIMCHA IT ISN’T THE BIGGEST AVEIRA TO POST THEIR COMMENT (ATT CHANI AND OTHER COMMENTERS) THESE PPL OUR IN NO WAY TRYING TO RUIN THE SIMCHA BUT POINTING OUT SOMTHING THEY THINK SHOULD BE CHANGED. THIS SHOULDNT AND I HOPE DOESNT RUIN THE HAPPYNESS OF THE SIMCHA!
REAL SIMCHAS REMAIN HAPPY EVEN IF SOMEONE SAID SOMTHING NEGETIVE….
OF COURSE ITS BEST TO KEEP TO THE POSTIVE AND NO WE DONT HAVE TO BE PESTAMISTIC ABOUT EVERY THING BUT SOME TIMES THERE ARE IMPRTANT THINGS THAT SHOULD BE NOTICED.
MAZAL TOV TO ALL THE GRADUATES MAY YOUR SIMCHA REMAIN HAPPY AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!!!!!

  • nebach to all of you!!!!

Let’s see if one event can be posted and go by without any of all your loserish and boring comments. Do you people not see what’s going on in our community? Rachmanah Litzlan so many tragedies are happening. • student of bais-rivka]

why is everyone aking such a big deal i mean hel-o did you say you whant to show a good example!??!?!?!?!?!? then why are you emmbaresing your duaghers
and showing them a very how YOU would call a "good" example and you know if you wanna show a good example heres one thing you can-do shut your stupid mouth!!!!
even the 8 and 12 graders are more mature than you ch-er people!!!!

  • to ch-er

although the gowns may not be a Jewish idea, think about it – what would it look like if the girls weren’t wearing gowns? Tight shirts, short skirts, etc. it is much more tznius to wear the gowns. The heads of the schools obviously took all this into consideration.

  • tiffy

mazel tov to the ladys for staying seated behinde the mechitza it was verry impressive to regarding to the concept of graduation robes there is a deep mistacle consept in samach vov called takifim pnimy when you wher a levush that one will feal comes from shtus by using in this foeld you r elevating the levush and youre mamash elivating in to contects of shtus dekedusha any ways, gtg g-d bless ill continue a nother time leshona hazois berooshalayam

  • OT bochur

"what about the mothers who go to the boys graduation?"

you are so off. and as you go on it just gets worst.

maybe we should remove the mechitzos from our shulls (actualy some chabad houses already almost… whatever), since after all we are lubavitch and we dont get nispoel like all the other jews like poileshers and snags!

all i can say is that some people in this place are missing so much hadrocho, simple basic yiddishkeit. we way be lubavitch but we are also yidden and i don’t mean reform.
being a lubavitcher rebbe is sopposed to make us only more frum.

  • HELLO

oy vey you ppl are totally losing the point we graduated whith the gown or not that means a group of jewish girls moving a big mile stone of thier life but all u ppl r saying is what why r the girls wearing gowns and if we werent wearing gowns and we would be wearing short skirts that would also be a prob .dame its hard to make u ppl happyp.s i think loshen hora is worse than wearing gowns pps how would you like it if ur dad couldint come to your graduation becouse some nerds think its not tznios to come to a daughter s graduation i mean ya he might look at a 13 yr old girl ppl GET A LIFE …………………OR MAYBE INSTEAD OF BIEG ON THE INTERNET THE WHOLE DAY GO DO SOME THING MORE CONSTRUCTIVE AND GO BRING MOSHIACH CRITISIZING ON GOWNS WONT MAKE U A BETTER PERSON OR MORE CHASIDISHE AT ALL

  • family friend

    GO CHAYA AND MUSSI

    you guys were great

  • ot bochur

"being a lubavitcher rebbe is sopposed to make us only more frum".

oopps i meant to say being a lubavitcher CHOSSID is sopposed to make us more frum.

i geuss i should be going to sleep a little earlier

  • heny

i could understand why there is such a fuss about the graduates wearing gowns i understand why some people
feel it’s a goyish minhag to wear what they wore i guess it makes graduation more exciting and the rebbe never disagreed with this . i believe that the rebbe spoke about loshon haroh 99% than the gowns if we all just keep our comments to ourselves it would make the world a better place and bring moshiach now!

p.s. graduates rock! and we looked great!!!

  • 8th grade graduate
