Shomrim Members Graduate the City’s First CERT Course

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

The course which consisted of eleven classes, two and a half hours each, had 25 attendants which included 17 Shomrim members. They received training from fire fighters in handling small fires, stabilizing victims and light search and rescue.

Attending the graduation was personal from the Office Of Emergency Management, directors of the CERT Program as well as our 71st Precinct’s Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Frank Vega. The course was sponsored by our Community Board 9’s chairperson R. Yaakov Goldstein and district manager Mrs. Pearl Miles, who had both attended the graduation.

As far as I know it is open to anyone without a criminal record.

That disqualifies most of those that represent to CHJCC

  • Concerned Citizan:

To can I join: I believe your comment disqualifies the organizors of your group. but I gues it reasuring to know that even the thugs care

LAWYER, YOU SHOULDN’T BE THE ONE COMPLAINING. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH, LAW. THE MORE CRIMINALS THE MORE WORK YOU GET. AND YES THE COMMUNITY LEADER IS A CONVICTED FELON WITH A BALL AND CHAIN TIED TO HIS LEG. THINK OF HOW FAR WE WOULD GET IF WE HAD A REAL TRUE VAAD.

So which patrol is this? I thought that Shomrim is an official volunteer police auxiliary whose members could not possibly have records – and I also thought it is under the CHJCC.

And what are the records for? Going a little too far according to the law when ridding CH of a behema or 2?

  • CH
