"FDNY responded within a few minutes of being called and freed the family which had been trapped between the 3rd and 4th floors."

No other city agency is so responsive to the needs of the citizens. Thank you again to our Firemen of FDNY!

  • This is a nightmare!

This is sick. It is the responsibility of the owner’s to make sure that the elevator is working properly. It is a nightmare to think that a family can get trapped in there. What if they don’t have a cell phone? What if Chas V’sholom there is no air in the elevator? What if it is someone who is sick and needs their medication?

This cannot go on! I don’t even live there, and i am not even in crown heights right now and i am feeling clostrophobic!

Perhsps if one of the landlords would spend a night in the can they would know the feeling and oen their cheap-tight wallets and spend the few bucks it takes to fix the elevator….

If they are out of funds, they can just flip another house…

  • good landlords

the owners of this buidling are not flippers. actually it is the only family that actually gives Yidden apartments in CH, while other famous & rich families gives apartments to shvartzes.
for the amount the residents pay in that building, they cannot complain

  • Anon.

What do you mean for the amount they pay they cannot complain!!! What difference how much someone pays? Do you know how much money they get for each appartment from the city? And even that doesn’t make a difference. The fact is according to the makeup of the building there are supposed to be 2 WORKING elevators at all times: there are people who are elderly, people who are sick. people with strollers and just regular people who don’t want to climb up and down five or six flights of stairs a couple of times a day. I happen to live in the building and have no complaints – other than this – the landlord’s office are always nice and polite to me and try to accomodate in any way they can. I am also not sure what all these people are hoping to accomplish complaining on this site, if you have a problem call the management or as one shvarse tenant told me on Erev Yom Tov she is calling HUD. Personally, I am not calling anyone I have seen the repair company every day last week trying to get it working – Thank you.

I have to agree with good landlords…but they should still fix it and make sure its 100% working

  • Itzik_s

The landlord should know that there are tax breaks (J-51) for replacing an elevator, and if he is decent he should get to it before the city makes him get to it (and penalizes him for it big time).

    to good landlords:
the landlords are getting paid from the government, thats how section 8 works, so they have fix the elvators, both of them before something big happens, it’s sakanas nefoshes, theis are families with children, older people, pregnant women, you can’t just say "use the stairs" up to the sixth floor.
it needs to be changed now. before it’s too late.

  • Reisdent

It doesn’t matter how much one is paying for their rent – safety can never be compromised – and the owners are still walking away with the money – some get it from the renters and some from the government

  • maybe this shoudl be a lesson for 8 ers

all u section eighters need to move on.
stop making us hard taxpayers pay for your lifestyles (country homes, other homes in crown heights, condos) that we have to pay for because you refuse to be honest. I am sure there are plenty of people who need and could benefit from section 8, but unfortunately they dont receive it

  • chaya

youd think that they would get it fixed already! i have family livingthere and it is very scary and unnerving to know that you cant even use your elevator!!!

  • SOMEONE Special

Thank G-D they made it on time for yom tov,or els G-D forbid something realy, realy, realy dangores could hav happened. To the person who is reading this add just to tell you the truth, if you know that an elavaitor is not working ”NEVER EVER IN YOU’R LIFE GO ONE”

  • Community member

THe community has kept quiet for waaay tooo loooong regarding what has been going on in this community. Why are people able to live in section aid and own homes on the side when familys are starving??? we ought to put an immediate stop to this nonsence. We arte all kissing up to this family hoping to be on there good side in case in need one day for one of there appts. Are we all fools?? youy really think they give? If you have no close relation w/ them you will Not Be helped. I hope people can look at themselves in the mirror and explain how they can drive in luxury while people cant afford everday life. I hope this puts a thought in to everyones heads including the owners.

  • BrookAve

Look, I’m sure that even if they wouldnt be able to get out, liechter, challas, wine would have been lowered down to them. And if they were still there by day, a minyan would have been there for Kriah, followed by a full milchig meal.

  • Kudos

675 E is the most sought after building in CH the world is littered with Shluchim and Shluchim supporters who spent their first married years in the safe clean and quiet building without the worry of struggling with exorbitant rent (from zikney ansh with trimmed beards and slum lords ).Contrary to public opinion , I have been in the building for 4 years and have only been treated in the nicest way by the management who have bent over backwards to assist us in every possible way .And to "bound to happen " eat your jealous rent paying heart out !

  • Seymour

just becouse the owners are NOT FLIPPERS, does not mean thet you do NOT have to take CARE of their building???

  • crown st

money is no connection here …. the fact is the elevators dont work …. it doenst make a difference if the tenats are paying $10 or $850 …. they need an elevator…. if this was a regular building not section 8 what would the excuse be?? they pay too much ..huh… fix the damn elevator and thats it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Itzik_s

If anything, Section 8 might force them to fix it. Section 8 just means that the difference between the stabilized rent and the rent the tenant is deemed to be able to afford is paid by the government. It has been 15 years since I’ve been involved with real estate management but I somehow remember that inspections were often conducted by HUD or whoever disbursed Section 8 funds.
