The Bnos Chomesh Girls Acadamy!
Once upon a time there was a little girl in a school that did not fit her. This made her quite sad and she longed for a school that fit. One day she chanced upon a beautiful village with trees, and lakes and rolling hills. Strolling through the village the little girl heard faint sounds in the distance. She followed the sounds. The little girl was curious and so she continued along until the sounds became louder and clearer. They were sounds of laughter! The little girl was drawn magnetically to the laughter and found herself at the doorway of a school. “This cannot be,” she thought. “School is not for laughing.” The little girl gently pushed open the door and once inside couldn’t believe her eyes! She found herself surrounded by smiling faces, happy conversations, stimulating learning, and caring teachers. It felt like a fairy tale. Surely she must be dreaming, for no school is like this!
But she was fully awake. And she realized that she was at Bnos Chomesh Academy of Long Island, a new concept in education. Bnos Chomesh is a school that first and foremost strives to make its students happy. Happy students have a better chance at being successful. They are motivated to put in the effort it takes to succeed in school. And then there is no limit to what they can achieve.
Bnos Chomesh is a NYS accredited girls’ high school with a full Limudei Kodesh program and a Regents level general studies program. We also have serious classes in the arts: Drawing and perspective, guitar, dance, and knitting. In the fall of 2008 we will be adding culinary arts courses to our curriculum. Students are involved in community service, such as Friendship Circle and regular visits to a local senior center where they are adored by the residents.
Bnos Chomesh has a dorm that is home away from home to its students. Dorm students enjoy delicious meals, farbrengens, trips, activities and the comraderie that comes with dorm life.
Our students actually look forward to school. They have the opportunity to ask life’s important questions and get relevant answers. We encourage our students to think outside the box and use every ounce of their G-d given talents to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Every student feels valued and this frees her to strive to be her best self instead of worrying about measuring up to someone else.
Our school is a well-synchronized team. The team consists of parents, staff and students. We all work together to find out how to best meet each student’s needs. Students get lots of personal attention at Bnos Chomesh. Teachers take time to chat with students over lunch or go to the dorm to help them study for a test or help out with a personal problem. Our school has that small, friendly “out of town” feel, but it’s conveniently located just a half hour from Crown Heights!
So how does the fairy tale end? The little girl stays in Bnos Chomesh and has the kind of school year she has never known before. And now she is ready to enroll for another incredible year.
