CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — An Israeli food company has offered $40 million for the bankrupt Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville and a smaller, subsidiary plant in Nebraska.

The Postville plant was the largest kosher-meat producer in the country before last May, when it was the site of an immigration raid that sparked a spiral into bankruptcy.

NEW YORK, NY — Con Ed charges its 2.4 million residential customers the highest prices of any major utility company in the 48 contiguous states, new federal data show.

On average, Con Ed charged 21.58 cents for a kilowatt-hour of electricity in 2007 - more than twice the national average of 9.13 cents.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Sefer Torah was stolen out of a parked car last night. The incident took place in front of 1723 Union Street which is between Schenectady and Utica Avenues, after was the car was parked, which was around 11:00pm, and was discovered at around 10:45 this morning.

Shomrim received the call from the driver of the car informing them of the theft and asked for their help with what to do. After arriving on scene Shomrim called 911 and had police respond to the location to take a report and gather evidence in hopes of recovering the Torah, which has a stated value of $40,000.

Sholom Rubashkin faces charges of harboring illegal immigrants, document fraud, bank fraud and identity theft. The 58-year-old man was ordered jailed pending his federal trial because of fears he might flee the country.
