Flooding Hits Brooklyn, Knocks Out Power For Block in Crown Heights

A strong thunderstorm and downpour hit Brooklyn Monday night, leaving foot deep flooding and knocking out power to a block in Crown Heights.

Flash flood alerts were sent by the national weather service Monday afternoon, warning of an impeding storm.

The thunderstorm covered a slice of the east coats, hitting New Jersey, the southern tip of New York, and up into Connecticut and Rode Island.

In Brooklyn, the downpours came suddenly, quickly overloading the sewer system and creating flooding throughout the borough.

Videos show streets completely under water, sometimes as much as five feet under water.

Emergency services responded to dozens of locations around Brooklyn, were the flooding knocked out power and shut down streets.

In Crown Heights,a manhole fire put residents in the dark around midnight on the block of President St between Utica and Rochester.
