Netura Karta Protest ‘Zionist Pritzus’ in Crown Heights

A group of Netura Karta from Williamsburg bussed in to Crown Heights a short while ago to protest in front of a local beauty salon. The group shouted ‘gevald gevald’ whiling maligning Chabad and the Rebbe.

The handful of protestors were upset that the salon owner opened up a branch in Williamsburg, and after receiving little attention in their neighborhood they decided to bring their protest to Crown Heights.

The protestors held signs calling “Iris, please do not desecrate the kedusha of our neighborhood” and “why are you the first to start such a business in public”.

In an attempt to rile up the gathering crowed the protestors began chanting “Jews only believe in hashem and not in any false moshiach” statements which drew the ire of the crowd.

Police were on hand to make sure the demonstration remained peaceful. The stores gate was closed for the duration of the protest.

I think the store owner has disregard for the levels of tznius that are acceptable and her family in general could not care less about right or wrong

  • Respect

We should respect the fact that Satmar Chasidim observe higher standards of Tznius.

  • I stand with you

    I agree with them.
They don’t want Willy to look the way CH looks and they relize it starts slowly so they are trying to stop it from infortrating their community they way she did it here in CH.
If you think I’m wrong go for a walk on Kingston Ave and tell me if you thinkour commuity keeps the laws of Tznius.
Hats off the willy for stopping this snake and not letting this tumah get a foot hold in their shichna

  • Mendy Hen

The rebbe said years ago that thanx to they’re protests against the state of Israel we don’t need to protest against Israel.

So here again their protest against our MO element is a great service to our community. This time we need to join them.

What a busha to us that we fell so low!

  • admirer

Good for them! Standing up for whats right in a respectful manner. What was Shemtov doing with them?

  • STOPPING a Mageifa IS AHAVAS YISROEL

I don’t know where sinas chinum fits it. You don’t hate your neighbor if you’re trying to prevent his house (or him/herself) from being burned or if he/she is trying to jump off a cliff and you try to stop him.

  • Local Lawyer

i respect their right to voice their opposition, its a democracy. although i disagree with them, i still affirm their democratic right to speak their mind.

SHE TREATS ALL OF HER CUSTOMERS WITH PATIENCE, AND HELPS EVERYONE.
    SHE IS VERY HUMBLE TOO!

    Whats going on here?!
Is Federman now the face of the Lubavitch response?!

  • they have the Right

cmon lets defend chabad values & respect them! after all they are promoting adherence to higher values,
according to our dear Rebbeh, modesty = protection from many tragedies…

  • Thinkster

These are Chassidim of the Grabatochus Rebbe in Williamsburg. Back in the original shtetle of Grabatochus, they weren’t that popular with the locals – something about invasion of privacy.

  • Att: all Lubavitchers

Do not bring your own down and judge. Just because they have a “livush” doesnt make them any better than who we are. We all have faults no matter where we were raised

  • hidden Damage

before yall get all deffensive… lets remember that huge damage is done behind the scens when the public standards are lowered!
bec human nature considers lower Aveiros in private when the collective lowers its adherence to halacha

which in turn results in the blatant escelation of tragedies predicted by our Prophets (& warned by our Rebbe)

  • @sk Shmully

    Random Points….

    1) funny seeing them in their “livush”, and the at home men all dressed in multi colored shirts and kippas

    2) no seems to know exactly what is wrong with the salon

    3) this is not a protest on tznius, this is not what all the hidden commentors are sitting and salivating over

    4) seems like alot of people have extra time on their hands, no?

    5) as a former teacher in satmer, I am so proud of the handwritten signs!

    6) the protesters have no creativity. they should have had a sign with the shop photoshopped out! that would have rocked.

    7) and too all those who comment about the level of tznius and spend time looking at too tight skirts, I ask you: is everyone in your house clean. until then, focus inward.

    enough rambling,

  • ya gatta respect them

…for respectfully standing up for their Beliefs!

  • Be OPEN-MINDED

    wait a minute folks
    No doubt
there will be many local tzatzkes who will feel uncomfortable by their message,

    but face it,
we live in a democracy & if u consider ur selves “open-minded”
then be open-minded to the possibility that they may be right on this matter,
maybe many of our problems & sufferings can be prevented if we had the blessings & protections that Torah promises comes to a Tznius community

  • question

Can someone tell me why in Williamsburg women are dressed according to halacha but not in CH?

  • Levi

Halevai we ourselves had held such protest in CH years back. Perhaps there would had been less miniskirts in CH

  • serel chana maness

l’m trilled.may all the non-tznius women become tznius, and then we can have a safe community

but sadly on THIS they are legit!

gotta say it as it is!

  • a frequent visitor to Williamsburg

Let me tell u that she opened her store in a very tznius way. She closed up the entrance from the Ave. and you can only enter from the building. She frosted the windows so you can’t see inside the store.

  • a white shirt doesn-t make a chosid

The women of the dor hamidbor donated their hand mirrors to the mishkan and everyone thought it wasn’t acceptable either- Yet the Abishter told Moshe to accept their mirrors because they were used with the good intention of making themselves beautiful for their husbands.
I can’t understand why we would say that a group of neturai kartai that have a healthy relationship with the plo and egg them on to hurt yidden – should be given any encouragement .
According to them – you and I aren’t really yidden.
sorry but the neturia kartah are not normal .
I don’t see whats to commend them about.?

  • love my manis and pedis BUT.............

they have a RIGHT to keep it the way they want it there are plenty of salon everywhere

  • CH resident

Those guys, shouldn’t have their heads and noses in this to begin with, how do they know what’s going on there?

  • Yes they can.

No doubt about it, they have a valid point and they made a nice peaceful demonstration. But look at all the batlunims in CH who were at hand at 2:30pm Do they have a job or seder limudim? Specially the idiots with the Israeli flag. They have no clue. We support Israel and the people but not zionism.

  • free speech

more than one side to this story.
There are salons in our neighborhood where the proprietress herself dresses at the lowest standards.
There are salons in williamsburg..but not on the main street.
unfortunately many of these men are protesting their wives going to salons…but, they have no problem with patronizing houses of ill repute!
and the worst part of all is….shemtov still dangles a ciggie..so politically incorrect!

  • woman

I understand them wanting to keep a salon out of their neighborhood…that’s their right.

But have you seen their women???? I work over there & I am embarrassed by the cheap clothes, an OK sheitel, and minimal make-up I wear. Some of them are so glamorous – gorgeous hats on top of cute little sheitels, FULL make-up, expensive clothes. These women carry genuine Coach purses & wear diamonds to work in an office or to go shopping on Lee Avenue. Wish I could afford what they have. On the other hand, some are so dowdy & downtrodden & they look like they belong in 17th century Russia. They’re probably the wives of these idiots.

But at the end of the day, they are all totally Tznius. I wish we were.

  • ch guy

the problem is that there putting there beliefs on other people. just as its your right to do as u wish, so too with those that arent tznius have a right to be so. you dont own the neighborhood

  • att. williamsbergers and CHers

I was shopping in a mall. there was a starbucks there and we saw a couple from williamsberg, or thats how they looked, drinking a certain drink thats Cholov Akum. Williamsberg, before you come to CH, make sure that people in your neighborhood keep Cholov Yisroel.

Naive lubavitchers, i dont know about you but i see that these people didnt come to help because they love their fellow jews; they came to mock and put down lubavitch. I might agree with their point about tznius. But not their mocking

What bothers me is that when lubavitcher chassidim try to promote tznius in more of a nice way, Crown heights screams at them, calls them a sorts of names and makes them look totally wrong as if they’re the worst people in the world. When some Polisher hakers come and mock the rebbe and lubavitch, crown height suddenly totally agrees and fall to these strangers needs. wow! impressive! Amongst Lubavitcher Chassidim, no Ahavas Yisroel. Amongst these satmar extremists, crown heights suddenly become such Lemmelach and followers.

When will Crown heights look in their own backyard?????

  • usually they are wrong but NOW...

    IMMODESTY = TZAROS R“L

the Rebbeh never warned ppl of bad things happening etc (never Mussar)
    exept for THIS topic

the Rebbeh urged & Begged women to be Tznius bec Major curses are foretold by our Prophets if Not cha”v

  • Ku Klutz Karta

These people are NK – and they are in de facto Cherem in Satmar (except that they aren’t even important enough to be put in real cherem). Their leader is a Malach named Weberman.

No one in Williamsburgh with half a mind or half a shred of decency supports these thuggy nuts. I don’t know Iris Sherman, but since she is not from Willy she doesn’t have the connections to scare these punks (look how weird looking and undersized most of them are – no one normal gets involved in this kind of thing) far, far away from her salon.

I can’t stand the tznius situation in CH either, but Iris Sherman is not to blame. Her establishment seems perfectly tznius.

I think Reb Yisroelik is just having fun at their expense and posing with the sign as if it is Purim. Look how he is giving it to them.

  • MaidofCH

While I too deplore the level tznius here, I get the feeling that many of these Chareidim have an obsessive fear & loathing of femininity. Even toward women who are modestly dressed & simply running errands — or in this case wanting to look nice for their husbands or shidduchim.

Maybe these guys need to stay in a cave, like the Rashbi.

  • Shoe Poilish

    Polisher hakers???

Ingarisch. These nuts drove the Poilishers out of Willy and they’re the same type that caused the violence many years ago against unzerer.

Satmar outgrew them a long time ago. They haven’t outgrown their onesies yet.

  • Go Red Devil!!!!

Is it my imagination or is Reb Yisroelik really giving them the storm trooper salute? He is one of a kind (in a very good way) and I would not put it past him to mock these nuts that way!

On the other hand, seeing the feathered lightweight of a man and the meguluch who packs po tenants into his slums and creates crime problems makes me sick. They are a real threat to CH; these Karta Klansmen are just klowns.

  • A big joke

I see everyone on both sides are laughing because it’s a big joke. They had nothing better to do?

  • Ku Klutz Karta

The young kids with the Purim levish are just there for the fun of it – they probably don’t learn and don’t work so they have plenty of time. The organizers, the older ones with the badges, are clearly 39 WD’s short of a can of WD-40.

  • to 54

yes you are right, i have read an article about it. it is soooo true!
ha ha 56 i love your comment (not sarcastic)

  • NG, L.A.

Thank you Cousin Yisoel!!! you are the best!! I had a good laugh! :-)

  • RESPECT

respecting and agreeing are two separate things
i think they have a point they don’t want their women and girls with nail polish, so why open a store there?
people should learn to respect other people (especially during Sefira time)
why where the ‘Lubavitchers’ holding Israeli flags to annoy them that is not respectful at all!
    Respect yourself by respecting others

  • Andrea Schonberger

I don’t live in the neighborhood–I live in Washington state, so I’m not familiar with Iris salon and spa. However I automatically associate words like salon and spa with women only. So if Iris is for women only, why the protest?

  • sacho and shemtov

I like how the 2 kapota makers sacho and the red devil – are so involved

  • danny

how can other lubavitch websites title this article with chsidim protest are these chasidim they shook hands with ahmadinajad yemachsemo and there titeled chasidim it makes me sick to see them they are cowords do you see these animals at the isreli day parade did you see these very same aniamls set fire to the isreli flag and mocck the rebbe what a shame

  • Think about it

None of you are as concerned as they are regarding their community. I completely agree with them. If you are to live in a community with high religious standards, you have no right to disrespect their moral values. This may seem quite hypocritical, but the ones of you who are sitting at home pounding infuriatingly past on that keyboard of yours about how Crown Heights should look in their own backyard before criticizing others, or how these people are wrong as anything – obviously have a lot of anger to let out, and let it out into the wrong things.
First of all, this is one instance of them standing up for their beliefs – I don’t see anyone doing anything like that around here. Obviously no one cares enough.
Speaking as a freshman in a Crown Heights school, I am all too aware of the way these schools tend to deal with issues in our community such as low tznius values. Instead of lovingly encouraging a “wrongdoer” to follow the right path, the administration tries their utmost to root out the “perpetrators” and punish them for the crime they committed. Do they really have to have so many failures resulting from this system to recognize that it is faulty? Have they ever considered an alternative approach to this harsh one? No. They haven’t. And it is not getting any of us anywhere, in contradistinction to these people who do what has to be done, in any way that works, to get it done. I truly admire them.

  • b.ch

Sure, if their protest is legal there may be nothing we can do to stop them. But…

For lubavitchers to actually voice support for these Neturei Karta Arafat and Ahmadinejad-loving cretins who also have the chutzpah to stand on Kingston Avenue and scream that they do not believe in Moshiach Sheker is the hight of outrage! Were is any semblance of our self-respect?

Besides, ‘what’s good for the goose is good for the gander’ – they are here protesting only because this right of theirs is constitutionally protected. Well, the right of Iris to open a Williamsburg branch is protected by the same constitution. Williamsbug, in case someone forgot, happens to be part of a New York city, it is not a private settlement.

Furthermore, Jews don’t decide matters of Jewish law on the street. If responsible Rabbinic leadership in Williamsburg has an issue, THEY (not NK lunatics) need to appeal to the local Rabbinic leadership and let the chips fall where they may. They also have an option of restricting their congregants from using Iris, etc.

Lastly, for some pathetic souls here to complain about a very private beauty salon is beyond stupid. From our perspective on things, there is nothing wrong with it at all, quite the contrary.

  • i agree with these FREEX

unfortunately even these nuts can be right once in a blue moon!

its disgusting how pathetic some ppl dress trying to get self esteem!

  • netura karta bunch of natters

    1) i think its time in Williamsburg for the women to where the barka like the Muslim women do,
    2) also whats it there business who opens a shop where,
    3) there netura karter and should off been kick out of CH and like they keep all the haloches like trowing stones on shabbos in Israel

  • they R nuts! yes but still...

they ought have the right to publicly defend their values!

suddenly all the libs are against freedom of speech
as soon as they dont like whats being said

they should be given every right to express their standards publicly

  • bori

i like mr shemtov but he just gets them more edjy doesnt he have a gartel buisness

  • Bocher learning in Israel

They are neturi karta!!!! That kissed and hugged achmadenajjad!!!!!
They are against the entire israel, the rebbe only had a problem with the zionist anti-religion approach….

These are the same people that throw rocks at car that drive on shabbos, and call soldiers “natzi’s”, since they have to wear guns on shabbos to save jewish lives..

These people made a protest in “, trying to overthrow the shliach, and violently broke bones to make there point… ( I witnessed that)

There might be a problem with tznius in CH, and that indeed should be dealt with.
But these people are immature and dangerous.

  • TRUE or FALSE??

those Lubavichers who dress prost are unfortunately not proud, for if they were, they would not risk the health & well being of their family (by dressing in a manner that shows low self-dignity or low-self-esteem)

if you are truly proud of being Lubavitch you wont march publicly down the street in a way the Rebbeh begged us NOT to!

Tznius is the ONLY area where the Rebbeh makes numerous promises for those who will adhere to Halacha
& the Rebbeh points to the curs

  • Mendy Hecht

These guys are in the wrong neighborhood. How is protesting here going to close a store there?

  • Laszlo

It would have been a more effective protest if it had been carried out by women.

Williamsburg has it right in the ladies’ tzniyus department – some Lubavitch women are way beyond the pale.

  • Charedi

Why didn’t Iris set up her salon on a side street in a basement (like everyone else does in williamsburg) so as not to offend the people in Williamsburg

  • Sammy

As a guy who’s never been to Iris, I’m not really sure what they do wrong in the store. I am pretty sure that salons don’t sell mini-skirts, so that one is definitely out.

I am a little disappointed with the reviews this demonstration has been getting. I believe that things like this should be ignored. They wan’t publicity. If people wouldn’t stop to watch, take videos, or post articles on the web about it, they would go home.

There is another alternative to getting them to go home. Hire a lady to take her clothes off in front of them. (Make sure she doesn’t look Jewish.) If they leave, good, if they don’t, they’ll be the ones embarrassed.

  • RESPECT THE REASONABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laws of tznius?! what’s the problem with a salon that has more cardbords covering the windows then walls?!?! its all covered!
Are they saying they are against women getting their nails done, etc and looking normal?! Or the guys are so…that they wont be able to pass in front of it and look away!!!!!

  • HATERS

    LETS PLEASE REMEMBER:

THESE MEN ARE HATERS! IF THEY CAN FACE THEMSELVES EACH MORNING WITH PALASTINIAN FLAG PINS, THEY R PIGS!! WE SHOULD HAVE DRIVEN THEM AWAY, IF WE WOULD HAVE PROTESTED BY THEM ALL WE WOULD GET IS A BEATING!! SHALL WE RECALL???

#52. Your saying that ladies have the right 2 do whatever they like dress the way they want, well let me tell u something I read somewhere that the Rebbe worns us that if we don’t keep tznius then things could happen. So no there is no reason y a young lady has the right 2 dress like a prutza. No right. It is Asur & these ladies don’t have any brains in their heads 2 figure anything out. Look I agree with these young men. It is the torah they r sticking up 4 not their own ideas. Thank u. & the Rebbe is against all those ladies that dress prutzadig. So if they r having issues with having children the torah suggests that u dress accordingly. thats it.Its the Torah. the things that u said is like arguing with HKBH. or more down here the Rebbe is Moshe would u argue with Moshe Rabbeinu. there is your answer.

  • fools

    LOL

Really ? a Lubavitcher in crown heights thinks its funny to waive an Israeli flag? in that case you should no longer consider yourself a lubavitcher. The Rebbe took his name off ULY because they played hatikva.

Actually, I agree with these guys more than ch lubavitcher weanabees

  • To # 78

Get a grip! Iris, the store owner, owns a store in CH. They were protesting in front of her store in CH. They protested in front of IRIS’ store in WB last week to no avail.

  • To # 76

You are wrong, since you claim to be “learning” see tractate Kesubos 111a, before you make a fool of yourself.

Based, inter alia, on the above-mentioned hallacha, THE REBBE IS 100% AGAINST ZIONISM, not just the Zionist’s take on religion.

  • Julio Manuel (Arlington, Tx)

At least it was conducted in a civilized manner and didn’t get physical.

  • THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IRIS

WE ALL LOVE IRIS, AND ITS WRONG WHAT THEY DID . BUT WE CAN ALL LEARN AND IMPROVE IN TZNIUS.

  • response to #3

to #3 It’s not necessarily higher standards.. .it’d DIFFERENT standards… we wear sheitels, they don’t… doesn’t mean we’re better or worse.

  • :-)

I don’t know this woman, and what she does in her own life is her business (its a cheap shop attached her tznius level).

Her having a nail and beauty salon in no way “desecrates” the community.

What the heck is wrong with it?

All you pro NK people really need to evaluate you opinion. What is wrong? Why can’t we have it on Kingston? Its done a wholesome appropriate fashion.

On a separate note, being that it is totally appropriate, why not support the community–since people are going to go outside for such services.

These people obviously have not life–demonstrating in the afternoon.

If they do come back I would assemble loud speakers and play them something they would not enjoy. Not for nikama (okay maybe a little), but because they are hurting this person’s store.

Tell these amai haaretz to learn a gemara (it’s mentioned several times–as a good and normal thing). In addition, us Jews have been using such services since yetzias mitzraim, through bayis rishon etc. So on a Jewish level–they have no case.

But thats besides the point, even if you do not enjoy that place, be mentchlach. Don’t fall to these peoples level.

The horrible comments above are shocking. This woman is not responsible for the tznius level in CH. Each person has their won life to run, with help from their chosen friends, mashpiim, etc.

Incidentally, the store in Williamsburg is only open because people attend.

Woman do partake in these MUTAR services, so why not receive them from a frum Jew?

Again, loud speaker…blast anything that’s louder than them. I don’t care, even Shwekey (yes sfira, but the heter is to save the parnasa of a family).

You guys in CH have the advantage of an electrical outlet :-)))

  • Miriam-s Cleaning Service

Don’t worry Iris.We know you had good intentions to help women feel good about themselves…maybe u should move a little further from the shtetl but not too far at the end like the equivalent of troy avenue or utica so they don’t see you and instead use the storefront to open up another koltuv. I’m sure it will do very well on lee Avenue!

  • chaim

1-they are aloud to do what they want but they cant stop anyone else from doing what they want.
2-is shemtov yelling Heil Hitler and Saluting?

  • look at yourself

to all the people that think that CH is like the way it is because of people that set up a salons, its not. its beacause of the past genaration that raised the newer genaration. “the old genaration doesnt like the genaration after it, but they have to remember who raised them”. dont go blaming people that paint nails, first go look at yoursel.

  • Shave and a Haircut

are they the same Rabanim that sat back and did nothing when their chassidim shaved off Horav Korf’s beard?!

  • Stop being intimidated by -liberals-

It doesn’t matter WHO the demonstrators were. The point is that unlike our very, very timid community, they are not afraid to stand up to make a point that is important to them. We should learn from that. At what point did we become so nispoel of the intolerant ‘liberals’ that moved in to the neighborhood and have the presumption to decide how we should live and dress? We see who they are tolerant of. Where is all our courage? We should be proud of who we are and show it. Proud that we choose to dress according to our Torah’s ‘value system’. So what if some rude people who, sadly, haven’t learned their manners yet, sneer or talk about us. Just smile and wish them a nice day!

  • Israeli Flag?!

Sacho from the Kapota store why are you holding an Israeli flag in their faces as if to annoy them when we as Lubavitcher Chassidim are unequivocally against the Zionist state and flag. What are you implying and shame on you for mocking them this way.
Who knows perhaps this does display how low we have become, in Tznius and associating with the Israeli state.
    Rachmanus on our community.
Only in Lubavitch are we taking our holy traditional Levush and restyling it to be more mod.

  • Fed up with the Tznius in CH

They might seem extreme, but at lest they are sticking up for their values. We allow nail salons in our neighborhood. what’s wrong with a little nail polish? But when the schools say no nail polish, and I come to pick up my daughter from school, more than 1/2 of our “aigene” Bais Rivkah Headstart and Pre-1-A teachers are wearing very inapprpriate colors. Colors that I am not happy for my daughter to be exposed to. Not to mention the other areas of Tznius in which teachers are getting away with coming to work with. We are so used to seeing everyone not tznius, that we don’t even know what’s right anymore! Maybe we would be better off without nail salon’s…

  • bad name for the store

As many others have commented, I respect their right to maintain their values in their community.

But I can not believe that women do not frequent such places in their community.

Given that ALL women go to such places anyway, isn’t it better to do so in a Jewish environment and to give a Jewish woman parnassah?

Or is this a business solely for Asians etc?

I’m sure if she was less conspicuous or used the word “Shaitel” in the name of her store, and left out the spa bit, nobody would have minded. It’s all about perception.

p.s There are detailed halachos concerning Chatzitza etc with nail polish etc

  • Taxpayer

Isn’t it great to see our tax dollars hard at work. I love it when my taxes go to people on food stamps, medicaid and section 8 when they protest like like this during the day. Gevalt Gevalt…

  • Gombos Protest

Lets send 15 Lubavitchers to protest on Lee Ave against Gombos. How could he open such a delicious hamishe bakery here? Mailia for erev Shabbos, but he’s open everyday pumping all these tivas into our community. This goes completely against what chassidus says about hiscafia/ain od milvado and gives us a big test to withstand each day. Why does he need to be the FIRST. This is against our standards. :)

  • proud crown heightser

wow!!! these ben abu family are so lucky in businesses, they bought almost all the businesses in crown heights and now expanding all over brooklyn?!? amazing!!!

  • xyz

My question is: are there any of us who are prepared to protest at the lack of tznius in our community?

It doesn’t seem so. And that my friends is a Cherpa and busha! We claim to be following the ways of teh Rebbe, but we know how much tzenius meant to him. And still walking down some parts of CH isn’t much better than fancy Manhattan areas.

Where are OUR Rabbonim? Where are OUR Kanoim?

I agree that some of those protesters seemed to be from the “Iranian” wing of the NK. And they are outcatsts ven in Willy. And (as we well know) in every group you will find some meshugoim and lowlifes. But their message was correct and well overdue (despite their aim being for Iris’s new place in WB and not the CH location).

As to the chaya with the Israeli flag – it is because of him that we end up shamed worldwide about what was done to Moishi Holtzberg by his (unfortunate but) irresponsible grandfather.

It’s abut time that Chabad went back to its roots and again became a genuine Chassidus with REAL ‘chassidishe chassidim’.
Sure we have a few even these days. But they should be pushed out to the front of the crowds to influence and encourage others, rather than being led by so many half and full strength puste keilim.

Finally Chazal say “kabel ha’emes mimi she’omro” – even if it is from a Satamarer Chasid and even from a NKnik.

  • woman beauty

maybe if they allow their ladies to look good they wouldn’t look for a second elsewhere Torah: I woman needs to look beautiful for her husband

  • oh, please

  • that-s also included in tznius!

    reposons to 79.

it is not tznius for ladies to make protests/demonstrations out in the street..

  • Someone who has been here a while

I dont think that Iris has the whole problem of tznius on her head I think these girls and women dressed this way even before Iris got here. She does try to make women enhance thier beauty. But the dress is not her problem. If a married women goes out without stockings and in a tichel and a short skirt that is her and her husbands problem not the women who helps her with her hands and feet and makes her wig look decent. She is expressing, in my opinion, that women should look pretty and dress is not her subject. A women’s dress is the women’s perogative and not the person who does her hair and nails.

    Three Comments and one bakosho:

    1:Please capitalize “Hashem”.
2.What is a fellow Lubavitcher doing with a flag?? Especially after all the hullabaloo in EY publicizing the Rebbe’s stand re zionism.
    3. Kudos to the guy who taught English in Satmar. Please give some fellow Lubavs who send posts to various websites some tutoring in the basics, and teach editors some basics, too.

    4.MOSHIACH NOW

  • CHABAD ROCKS - WHY WE ARE RIGHT

    YOU ARE ALL NOT GETTING.

Satmar are changing and the women and getting more modern — they are blaming us. Chabad had always been ahead of the curve so what are women are know for being more modern, if fact it draws many pp to Chabad, bec we are more worldy and pp feel that they can talk to Chabad rebbetzins who dont intimidate.

Chabad women are know the world over for being strong and holy. So what of they dress more modern — i like it & its going to be the morn in 50 years anyway. We are not the Taliban and our wives dont have to wear a burkah. Afterall the rebbe’s wife, didn’t wear a Shtetle and went to the library was she not tnzius — of course she was.

  • Rebecca in Montreal

Does not seem like a good business plan to me. Can they open just outside this community so the same customers can reach it easily?

  • No Flags

Why the Israeli flag, whose the immature baby that brought that?

Perhaps that person should go study the Rebbes views on the STATE of Israel.

  • Dismayed but laughing

First I laughted. Then I didn’t. Why don’t those guys have anything to do in middle of the day? B“H they don’t rob and kills like some other people do when off in the summer. But this too is a gang of foolish, bored, ignorant ”leidig geiers“

Williamsburg didn’t allow them to demonstarate so they came to C.H.?! Then they threw in all the entire arsenal – Zionism, Moshiacist, etc..

Perhaps someone should open a kiruv ”spot” for these guys who have nothing better to do than throw slurs at CH.

  • fools gold

who the bigger fool; the hasid with no job protesting a beauty salon or the hasid with no job watch the hasid with no job protesting a beauty salon

  • Confused

If 95% of the respondents here agree with the protest, how is it that CH looks the way it does?

  • unfortunate!!!

HALEVAI WE SHOULD HAVE OUR OWN DOING THE WORK FOR US!!!

TZNIUS IS DOWN AND UNDER. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? MORE TZURES, CH“V????

THE TORAH TELLS US TO ADMONISH THOSE THAT GO AGAINST HALACHA AND THE REBBE TOO IS STRONG ON THAT, SEE THE LAST PUBLICATION BY MERKAZ ANASH ON THIS TOPIC ”REACHING IN“!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE YET TO SEE THAT WOMEN WEARING MINI SKIRTS, HALF TICHELS AND DISGUSTING NAIL POLISH ARE DOING IT ”FOR THEIR HUSBANDS YIRAS SHOMAYIM“ AND ”NACHAS FOR THE REBBE”!!!!!!!!!
WOMAN WAS CREATED TO BE BEAUTIFUL TO ENHANCE HER HUSBANDS YIRAS SHOMAYIM, NOT TO DESTROY IT!!!

UPGRADE YOUR TZNIUS IN WHATEVER WAY NECESSARY AND STOP SHAMING THE REBBE, OUR COMMUNITY AND YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chaya L.

    ATTENTION ALL MEN:
Please dont comment on the way women in this community dress and say that you should have made a protest long ago and maybe this problem of untzniut women would not be around today. It is not the responsibility of a man to tell other women other than his wife how to dress, in fact it is pretty immodest to go around doing that.

Women, I can understand how it may frustrate you to see other women dressing in a way that you would not dress yourself. But you also have to realize that nobody is perfect and EVERYONE struggles with one thing or another. I hear women talking about others, I hear them bad mouthing school, I see things all the time that are not in the correct manner. BUT, it is not my job nor will it ever be to go around telling you how to live your life. You will now give the argument that it is affecting everyone bec you are letting everyone “see” your body, well let me inform oyou of something, it is also affecting others when you talk about them!

As per this protest, I feel that these men are a bit controlling towards the women of their community. Although I do not personally know what goes on with them, I dont think that there is anyting wrong with a woman being pampered every once in a while. I am almost positive that the women in the community are not affected by this salon being opened, if they were, maybe they would have been there yesterday.

It seems that store was opened in a very modest manner, much like the one in crown heights is, so I really dont understand. To each his own though.

    Have a wonderful shabbat!

    Much Love

  • happy

this people come from a place were the men do the most UNTZNIUS thing and evryone know that. fix you own people first P.S do’s she sell mini skirt what service do’s she give already?

  • jeff

Best part of the video is the guy’s mistranslation of “vu shteit in torah az m’tor nit”–“where is it STANDING in the torah that it’s not allowed…”

  • The Violation of a Salon

Don’t you see how strange this looks. A bunch of guys in black hats long peyos and white socks (bless their dear holy souls) standing outside a beauty salon. It is a demoralization for women – and I think they should go back to their shadowy learning halls and stop peaking around corners to see if and how ladies are getting their nails done. It is not untznius for a lady to get her nails done or wax her leg, but it is definitely untznius and distasteful for a bunch of men to be standing outside a beauty salon. The salon has been violated by these men and their posters!!! and it is time for the frum ladies to stand up and show the men that they have rights and they have a say and these men cannot tell them what business they cannot open. If this place is so outrageous where are the women demonstrators.

  • CRAZINESS

This i complete INSANITY. How should the women up keep themselves if there is no salons around? don’t you men want to be some what attracted to your women.. Goshhh’

  • TO 124

CHAS VSHALOM TO SPEAK LIKE THAT! THE REBBETZIN WORE A SHEITEL AND WAS THE EPITOME OF TZNIUS! AND ANYONE WHO THINKS YOU NEED TO DRESS MODERN TO B A SUCCESSFUL SHLUCHA IS TOO CONFUSED. ITS ACTUALLY THE TZNIUS SHLUCHOS WHO ARE MORE SUCCESSFUL AND CAN PROUDLY REPRESENT CHABAD. ITS A CHUTZAH FOR ANY SHLUCHA TO WORK IN THE REBBES NAME WHILE DRESSED INAPPROPRIATELY.

  • LOL

These are like the Satmar version of our DIBS…… LOL everyone’s got them…..

  • to134

that is why it does!! 48-ha!!! 124-you have a terrible, terrible aproach…!!!

  • too afraid to say - yikes!

Wow, we have become SO judgemental – where is the ahavas yisroel and achdus? Where would we all be if HaShem saw us in the same light we see each other in this corporeal world. And when did a salon for women run by a woman become the “den of iniquity” and the scapegoat for all that may be wrong in this world, and this community in particular? I’m missing something here – when did it become immoral to go to a JEWISH salon for a pedi/mani/haircut? Where should women go to have this done, especially for prep in going to the mikvah? Should we be going to the place on Troy? Get our haircut there? Having a salon in the neighborhood so that I get a good pedicure before mikvah has been a blessing. And helping women look their best – isn’t that what the women did in the midbar? Yes, tznius is a problem in our neighborhood…but I’m missing the link here that makes a salon at fault for offering women’s services in a Jewish salon…did anyone bother to apply some logic here or is it just another case of judging before thinking, condemning with reckless indifference? I make these observations to the commentators…Williamsburg? No mystery there in how they many view their women.

  • @142 =Judgemental vs Saving-lives

if someone is hurting their family & neighborhood
(reads up on how immodesty damages & brings R”L plagues)
its NOT judgmental to inform them, & beg them to stop bringing a Mageifa to our community,

if i drill a whole in my seat the boat will sink! its NOT judgmental to judge that action as DAMAGING! & INCONSIDERATE OF THE PUBLIC INTEREST!

  • Mordechai Yissachar

2 # 143. Just 2 inform u, we spoke about this issue when it came 2 Rav Rosenberg lighting the torch 4 the Israel Independence day. Every1 wrote & said that Lubavitch doesn’t hold of the state of Israel or Zionisim being that it goes against the 3 oaths not taking the land by force, so being against the state of Israel there is nothing wrong with that, the 2 previous Admorim from Lubavitch were against making a state of Israel & Zionisim, the only thing the Rebbe held was the safty of the Yidden living there. So 2 comment # 143 know that Lubavitch is against the state of Israel they r Kofrim BTorah

  • That-s That

They are against women using mascara. They have no idea what will go on in the salon but they protest it anyway.

Their opinion goes out the window considering we all pay taxes and fund their welfare lifestyle. If you don’t believe as they do, they don’t consider you a Jew. That is a fact. As much as they are allowed to have free speech, this is the United States and people have the right to set up business wherever.

  • 12th generation american

It’s not “their” neighborhood. Welcome to America.

  • thats that

They’ll protest a women’s salon but when kinderlach are abused by sickos, they pretend it didn’t happen.

  • go shemtov!!!

These guys dunno what their dealing with-Go red devil, you gave me a good laugh!! Dont start up with him!

  • Eggs

Cant wait for them to come again ! P.S Kahan’s Market has a great sale on eggs…

  • NEED TO INTROSPECT OURSELVES IN SEFIRAH

Iris had no right to open up a store in Williamsburgh without asking their Rabbonim first with a tzniuyusdik ‘resume’ of herself with a background check first before opening up there since she claims to be Jewish and ‘religious’ and how she and her family dresses and acts all the time. They have a good point and desserve to be respected for the Torah’s sake. The Torah is the same for all types of Jews. The Rebbe left over for us all to follow what he has taught us all exactly; what he expected of his chassidm. such as making time for chitas each day! and then Hashem will bring the Moshiach here right away. It says in Parshas Kedoshim on one of the commentaries(Ramban) “Keshot Azmecha Veachar Kach keshot Acherim”!!!Fix yourself before you fix others with kindness: It was not an embarrassment for her at all!! She does things to embarrass herself in the open. We must be extra careful in our dress modes for ourselves and be a role model for our children to emulATE for the proper Tzniyus in our machshava, dibur, and maaseh(action) as the Rebbe stressed time & time again. No low neck blouses, no slits in the back of the skirts, all outfits must cover way below the knee so as we sit knees will be covered completely. This will definitely prevent anymore tragedies from hAPPENING.What a tzoro we are experiencing now of a tzadik who suffered plenty of yisurim in his lifetime and took it with Ahava, the children to have lost a father after the father has lost a child of his. Haleviiy if only the tzniyus aspect is corrected in everyone in CH” and only speak divrei noam and have ahavas yisroel then the true and real geulah will be here gladly b’eh.Good Luck in all of your efforts Now especially in these days of Sefiras Haomer as a lesson was learned by Rabbi Akiva,to stop all the magayfos from begining to happen. For example, a terrible thing happened to Iris’s family a few years ago and it had to have been a lesson to her personal actions. All these things are acts of Hashem and in these days of Sefira we need to look into ourselves seriously and believe in the Emunas Hashem, belief and faith in G-d, that what ever He does is for the Good even if it looks bad.It is brought to us as a sign from Hashem, so let us now have Ahavas Chinom and never criticize each other nor argue Because we need the Moshiach to come to heal all our illnesses in our communities.Hatzlucha Rabba.

  • to # 6

The rebbe said that to Chabad chassidim in Israel when asked about protesting for shabbes and closing streets in jerusalem with the other groups of chassidim. you are very miss informed, maybe you should move to willy

  • THE REBBEH SAID

    The Rebbe on ST 5730
At a farbrenghen on Simchas Torah 5730, the Rebbe said that young girls should be told what their lack in tznius implies. When uncovering a part of themselves to impress others, it is as if they are carrying a poster announcing that they have nothing else to show for themselves: no intelligence or emotions, and even that their face is disgusting… Now, why would someone want to proclaim this publicly?! The truth is that each one has innate qualities, and once they understand this, the test of dressing tzniusdik will become easier.

My question is: how many parents tell their daughters such very important things?

And to all those who deny there is a issue of tznius in CH or who are claiming that we should be tolerant on the matter, you are those who are encouraging such violation of Halachah. The time for kind wors is over. It has been for so many years that we’re using kinds words, and for what result? NOTHING! So, we need to tale action now that kind words had no result in improving the tzinus in CH, as the Rebbe said “HaMa’ase Hu HaYikar.”

  • Next time we should use a loud speaker

next time they come someone should get on a loud speaker and teach them halchah about how to protest. They should be exposed for the phony Jew haters that they are!

  • OWCH!

Woah. I think everyone needs to step back a bit and focus.
What would the Rebbe say if he saw these comments??
Are we Chabad Chassidim that have undeniable irrevocable Ahavas Yisroel for EVERY JEW?? NK or not! They have Neshamos the same way we do! And the only one who can judge them is Hashem!
We don’t believe the same things they do, as is apparent from what was written above. So we go about being the mature ones and we respect their standards as well as shaping ourselves up at the same time.
    We need Moshiach.
We can bring Moshiach by not judging people whom we have no right to judge, and we can bring Moshiach if we do OUR part and up the Tznius within ourselves.
You can’t change anyone but yourself.
    Goodnight and Moshiach NOW!

  • Guy with flag rocks!

Sacho is hilarious he held that flag for ONLY because they had ARAB which i think is DISGUSTING !

  • BP

Before they start screaming about this, let them clean up there own houses from swinging and swapping.

  • Tznius at the OHEL

Obviously, the demonstration by Satmar has awakened the problem of tznius within C.H. There is another fundamental lesson we can learn from them in showing respect for the Rebbe at the Ohel. When women go to the kever of the Satmar Rav, R’ Yoel Teitelbaum zt”l, in Monroe, there is a woman who makes sure that all female visitors are wearing stockings which comply with the Satmar Rav’s standards. (He only allowed women to wear certain colors and thicker stockings, so as not to be transparent and have the legs show clearly). If a female visitor is not wearing the proper stockings, she is asked to step into a booth and is given stockings to put on over hers before she visits the holy site of the Satmar Rav’s kever. There should be similar kavod by women who visit the Ohel. They should only visit dressed in such a way which would comply with what the Rebbe taught as acceptable. And there should be proper supervision for this, so as to show proper kavod for the Rebbe. Anyway, how can a woman come and expect the Rebbe to intercede on her behalf when she is not even following the aleph beis of what he asked of her?

  • i dont know IRIS, but im sure she-s NICE

they have no right to feel disrespected the fact that she opened a business in willi
at least she isent dressing in a provocative or offensive way
at least she shoes them respect for their values & sensitivities!
IRIS is a good heart & would never do anything that can hurt other peoples sensitivities
im sure she is currently seeking ways to relocate to a less in-your-face location

  • step by step by step... watchout!

true this itself is 100% A OK Kosher!

i think they are learning from CH history,

they understand that decline moves ever so slowly & gradually, with micro steps, step by step by tiny step…

once the main focus on external attractiveness begins to grow many steps later…

the YH works in tricky ways:
“Hayom Omer lecha aseh Kach, Machar omer lecha aseh kach ad… lech avod avodah zarah”

  • I support IRIS right to dress as she pls

the way IRIS dresses in public hurts no-one!
    and is nobody’s business!
she can dress any way she wants to, let them teach their kids that the reason we dress “frum” is not bec its the style on the street, their kids should be doing things bec jewish-law is best for jewish person’s happiness!

so stop being threatened by people on the street! start teaching your kids real reasons for Yiddishkeit, so that they are fortified & immune to the winds of the street!

  • No restrictions at the OHEL, please.

The Rebbe zt”l was very tolerant privately of every yid. The Rebbe wouldn’t want a single neshomo to miss an encounter with the Rebbe due to her clothing, regardless how it is. (What are you going to tell the woman with pants? [They also pour their hearts out there]). At the Ohel the Rebbe is mekabel yisurin from klal Yisroel and for klal Yisroel.

  • A mivtza, a mitzva

The Rebbe taught us that when we need to save a yid who is drowning, we need not ask questions. Just go there and teach them about Shabbat, Kosher, Mikva, etc. He taught us to be steadfast and ignore criticism, because we(shluchim) are doing them a favor and saving them!
These Satmars (zul zein gezunt) are doing just that! They went to a community (our community!) to alert the people on a most important yiddish issue! These Satmars are true chassidim of the Rebbe!

  • AGREE TO DISAGREE

theres no contradiction between LOVE & Disagreement

while i love & respect IRIS as a fellow mother,

i happen to to disaagree with IRIS’s choices & at the same time Respect & love her as a fellow jew

i do not judge her as a person!

i simply think she & i see the world differently, and thats ok!

this is the way of our Torah,

  • @161

start teaching your kids real reasons for Yiddishkeit,

so that they are fortified & immune to the winds of the street!

    well said!!

the reason a jew should dress as G;d wants is bec this is also the best recipe for happiness! plain & simple!

Torah is the BluePrint for jews to live most joyous life!

  • TO #162

This has nothing to do with tolerance. Don’t you remember how untznius women had to put on model coats to go in front of the Rebbe when receiving dollars? When one goes to a tzaddik, one dresses appropriately. The same applies when one goes to the Ohel.
