Man Shot Twice on President Street

A man is fighting for his life after he was shot twice on President Street, as hundreds of local residents were returning home from synagogues following the holiday of Sukkot and Simchas Torah.

The shooting occurred at around 8:30pm in front of 1544 President Street, just off the corner of Troy Avenue. Dozens of people witnessed the incident and many more came out of houses and buildings saying that they heard the gunshots.

What they discovered was a single victim, a Black man, laying on the street and bleeding from gunshot wounds to his face and chest.

Hatzalah and 911 were called, and EMS rushed the victim to an area hospital where he is expected to survive.

Witnesses gave police conflicting accounts about the number of shots heard, some said they heard two shots while others said they heard as many as four. Witnesses also said that they observed either one or two people involved in the shooting.

Many of the witnesses were visitors that have been spending the month of the holidays in Crown Heights.

One pair of witnesses, Israeli nationals, came forward and told police that they were standing a fair distance away when they heard the gunshots and immediately ran for cover. When they got up they were certain that they heard a metal-on-metal ‘ping’ and after a short search they were able to locate one of the projectiles that was presumably fired during the incident.

The 71st Precinct Detectives Squad is handling the investigation which remains ongoing.

Was the victim a yid? The 71 precinct has been extremely lax in safety this month. Last night, on simchas torah, there was not one officer around 770. So, the night before Kingston was closed. What about simchas torah???

  • lousy officer

On shmini atzeres I told an officer I see a suspicious looking man standing by the staircase on the women’s section, his answer,” well you understand you guys are not the only ones who live here. Maybe he passing by” why didn’t the officer get out if his car?. This is what we get for buttering them up and no leadership. Lax security. Hashes yeracheim. We can only rely on shomrim

Your story must be incorrect. How can there be a shooting when this city has one of the toughest gun laws in the nation?

  • Voting for Trump - we need change.

We need stop and frisk back. Its the only way we can hope to keep the neighborhood safe. Aside from teaching the kids to respect life instead of all the stupid “health education” that is teaching them the opposite.

    • lousy officer

Health education is thanks to Mrs Obama and her big white house garden nonsense

  • DeClasse' Intellectual

HYou do not understanding that under New Yorkm gun laws only criminals are allowed to have guns and use it with the city’s permission. If you are not a criminal, then you have violated that gun law

Our family is grateful that members of Jewish community helped our nephew who was the victim in this article and he received timely medical attention. If it was not for this help he wouldn’t have survived. That said, the comments in this post saddens me. Supporting Trump supports racist ideology. He’s against everything including the Jewish community. Listen to the rhetoric he has spewed about John Stewart and his heritage. We must value life in its entirety. Physical well-being and education focused on living healthy is a factor. Thanks, Mrs. Obama. Of course, a larger problem is illegal guns and enforcement. Let us not lose sight of the ugliness that racial and ethnic intolerance breeds. We don’t want history to repeat itself on any level.

Thanks again for your help. Shalom
