Woman Dressed as Verizon Worker Robs Apartment

Police are looking for a woman who robbed a man inside his Crown Heights apartment while she was dressed as a Verizon worker.

From DNAinfo by Rachel Holiday Smith:

The woman showed up at 1597 Bedford Ave. around 9:30 a.m. Monday dressed as a Verizon employee, complete with a badge, the victim told police. She said she could lower the man’s monthly bill if he showed her his previous Verizon statement from the month before.

When the man give her a copy of the bill, she sprayed him in the face with an unknown substance, snatched his wallet and fled on foot. Police said the woman then jumped into a dark colored Nissan sedan, which fled northbound on the avenue.

The male victim was uninjured in the assault.

A source told CrownHeights.info that the woman likely obtained the Verizon uniform as part of the ongoing union-led workers’ strike against the company, with employees protesting the company at its offices around the country, including on the corner Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues.

Unions will often recruit paid protesters off the street and give them official uniforms to boost the visible number of ’employees’ picketing the company, which is possibly how the suspect obtained her uniform.
