New ‘Companion App’ Makes Sure You Never Walk Home Alone

A new app with the tagline “Never Walk Home Alone” has some Crown Heights residents feeling more secure as they walk in the neighborhood.

The app has users plug in their destination and then select a friend or family member to be their “companion.” The companion can see where they’re holding at all times, and smart triggers check to make sure the user is safe. If there is no response, the app will alert your companion.

There is also an “I feel nervous” button that alerts your companions, as well as marks for other users to keep track of unsafe areas.

The app is available to download on both the App Store and Google Play store – http://www.companionapp.io. Read more about it on Business Insider.

it is funny how dependent we became on apps and gadgets. i also have an app for that. it is called it the phone app where you can dial a number and speak to someone. did you know it exists on your phone? call someone you know (father mother brother sister spouse etc.) and talk to them while walking. benefits are double 1. you ACTUALLY socialize with someone real 2. you can feel safe much safer than to rely on an alert from an app. we get so many alerts that we ignore most of them anyway.

For starters a phone call can’t tell you your friends exact location – which would obviously help in case of emergency.

Well obviously the person will update the other party where they are now. i have done this with my kids and spouse for years whenever they needed to walk alone somewhere and they didn’t feel safe.
it takes one short 3 second question.
      “where are you now”

Actually talking on the phone makes you less safe. You are less aware of your surroundings, and having your phone out can cause it to be stolen

    Great idea for our community.

Let’s have all our youngsters installing it to help keep them safe at night

    • Only kids?????!!!!!!!

Only youngsters??!! Adults as well!! These days NOONE is safe….whether ur an adult or child :(

I used to do that with my kids, but now when you take out your phone to call someone you get it stolen and many times beat up as well. They are safer when you hide the phone.

If you’re worried about a stalker, hacking Find my iPhone would make a lot more sense.

Your iPhone is being tacked 24/7 by “Find my iPhone”. This app only runs when you tell it to so would be useless unless the stalker already knows when you leave the house and are using this app.
