Man Steals 14 Bottles of Shampoo from Kol Tuv

Late Tuesday night Shomrim volunteers apprehended a shoplifter who stole 14 bottles of shampoo – totaling $86.95 in value – from the Kol Tuv grocery store.

The incident occurred at around 11:15pm; the manager of Kol Tuv spotted the thief walking out of the store after placing a large number of shampoo bottles into his bag without paying.

The manager immediately began pursuing the suspect while calling his boss, who in turn called Shomrim. A number of bystanders joined in the pursuit as well, along with about a half dozen Shomrim volunteers, and together succeeded in stopping him on Lefferts and Troy Avenues.

While fleeing, the suspect dropped his bag on the corner of Empire and Albany, which was recovered by Shomrim.

Once stopped, the suspect became very agitated, but a quick-thinking Shomrim volunteer calmed him down by speaking to him and lighting a cigarette while they waited for the police.

When police arrived at the scene they took the suspect into custody, and after a brief investigation he was arrested and charged with shoplifting.
