A Richmond County sheriff’s officer investigates the apparent vandalism of a glass door at Chabad of Augusta on Wednesday morning.

AUGUSTA, GA — Police in downtown Augusta are investigating what appears to be an attempted burglary or vandalism to a local Chabad House.

Richmond County deputies were called to the Chabad of Augusta, 850 Broad St., Wednesday morning after someone reported a window had been shattered by a brick.

Sgt. Paul Godden said it appears the vandal fled the scene without entering the synagogue. Although it initially appeared that items were missing, Godden said, the rabbi accounted for all items.

Chabad of Agusta is under the directorship of Rabbi Zalman and Chani Fischer.
