Kingston Ave. Shoplifter Apprehended, Arrested

This afternoon, a shoplifter who attempted to steal a pair of headphones from Sterling Electronics on Kingston Ave. was apprehended and arrested, thanks to the quick action of Shomrim volunteers.

The perpetrator, an older middle-aged African American man, had first entered the store yesterday, and his furtive actions aroused the suspictions of the management, who watched him carefully. He eventually left without touching anything.

This morning, the man returned, and once again he was carefully observed. When a store employee saw him put a pair of headphones in his pocket and attempt to leave the store, they immediately called 911 and attempted to keep him from exiting.

The man was very combative, and caused quite a commotion, insisting loudly that he “didn’t want to go to jail.”

A bystander called Shomrim, who quickly arrived at the scene and calmed the situation.

The volunteers spoke to the man and calmed him down, and held him until police arrived. The cops took the man into custody and charged him with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
