Daring Burglary Captured on Surveillance Video

A pair of sophisticated burglars wearing ski masks and gloves broke into Albany Bakery in Crown Heights last night, and made off with a substantial sum of cash. A surveillance video captured footage of the daring robbery, which took less than 15 minutes from start to finish.

The incident occurred at around 2:30am early Monday morning. Taking advantage of a school bus parked in front of the bakery, which gave them cover from passing vehicles, the burglars approached the shop and, after several attempts, broke the lock with a crowbar.

They then left the scene for a short while to ensure no one heard or saw them. After affirming that the coast was clear, they entered the shop and went straight for the checkout counter.

They pried open the cash register and emptied it, then rummaged beneath the counter for other valuables. After a quick search with the aid of flashlights, they found two lockboxes, which they took as well.

The pair then exited the store and made their getaway.

Police informed CrownHeights.info that another Crown Heights retail establishment, a salon supply store, was broken into the same night in a very similar manner, and the thieves made off with the cash in the register and a lockbox. Police believe that the same perpetrators are responsible for both robberies.

  • Bus

The buses parked on the streets have always been trouble. People can get mugged behind them and no one would see a thing.

    • Walking at night

When I’m even slightly suspicious of the area I’m walking in at night (and even by day), I walk on the street so all cars passing by can see me and there’s less concealment.

This drives the message home that CCTV without a burglar alarm is not enough, and vice versa. Get alarmed (pun intended).

when will we learn from other areas

we need 4 cameras on every corner of our community that need to be watched 24/7

this way we can see a crime as it happens and catch them

we are almost 2015 why are we living like its 1880

  • THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING INTO

Also, store owners, do not leave cash in your registers overnight!

  • Those who park commercial vehicles on avenues are responsible for the damage they cause

Enough is enough , park your commercial vehicle in a parking lot not on Avenues , the police should be giving summonses to these violators ,Law -No commercial vehicles are to park over night on any residential street or avenue , the violators are responsible for the harm and danger they cause
Including blocking view of speeding cars while children are trying to cross street , muggings and other crime go unseen because of blocked view of the danger

      Agreed.

Even if those commercial vehicles are used for holy reasons, such as Mitzvah Tanks.

The bottom line is, while it might be legal to park them on residential blocks, they are a nuisance at the very least, and more likely a hazard, as they block the line of sight for pedestrians and vehicles.

Now what can we do about it?

Can we push for a law that a vechile more than 6.5ft high cannot be parked on a residentail block (maybe special permit/exception should be made for large families).

There doesn’t seem to be any significant alarm system or deterrent at that bakery.
A guard dog would work wonders.

  • Amazing

Almost 4 minutes all that noise, nobody hears anything , you need to get a Dunkin Donut shop on the Block for Police to cruise by

  • Hmmmm...

How did they even know that money would be in the cash register after hours? Usually a cash register is emptied at the end of each day. Sounds suspicious.
