Graffiti Artist Caught Red-Handed

A graffiti artist was caught mid-act and arrested last night as he was defacing the side of a Crown Heights building with spray-paint, thanks to the swift action of Shomrim and the NYPD.

The incident occurred Monday night, shortly before midnight. A Crown Heights resident observed the wannabe Picasso vandalizing the façade of the Verizon building, located on Troy Ave. between Carroll and Crown Streets.

The bystander alerted Shomrim, who arrived at the scene within minutes and observed the vandal from afar – so as not to betray their presence and give him a chance to flee.

Shomrim quietly flagged down an NYPD cruiser, and showed them the location of the crime. Meanwhile, several Shomrim volunteers staked out the surrounding streets in case the perpetrator tried to flee.

The cops approached the man while he was still in the act, and arrested him for the defacement of private property. He was taken to the 71st precinct for booking.

The officers thanked the Shomrim volunteers for orchestrating the arrest discreetly so there was no need for a chase.

urban art is not ‘graffiti.’ As a famous Yid once sang, ‘The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement homes.’

This guy doesn’t need to be arrested. He needs some space at one of the CH galleries. I’m not a big art critic, so I don’t claim to fully understand his picture. But I see a picture of unity. The eyes are the sun and the moon and the stars united under the crown of Crown Heights. And the mouth speaks with love.

Doesn’t everybody see the difference between this guy and the wild kid who threw the gumball machine down the staircase?
