The thief, a Black male in his 30’s, approached a white sedan parked in the service lane on Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue at approximately 9:30pm. He smashed the drivers window of the car, reached in a took a bag, a GPS navigation unit and other assorted items. He then casually walked away, towards Albany Avenue.

Dumb Thief Nabbed after Robbing Car on Eastern Parkway
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — This thief couldn’t get any dumber. First he breaks into a car on Eastern Parkway in front of three witnesses, then attempted to evade capture by knocking on doors, asking to be let in for a glass of water because he was thirsty.

The witnesses followed the thief and called 911. The thief was apprehend on Sterling Place and Albany Avenue, where he was placed under arrest for Grand Larceny Auto.
As the thief was being followed, he kept knocking on doors asking to be let in for a drink of water. At one point it appeared that an elderly woman was going to allow him in, but one of the witnesses warned the woman that he was wanted and she turned him away.
When police approached the scene, the thief ran up to a door of a house and attempted to hide between the security gate and the door itself. However it didn’t help and police arrested him.
Shomrim members, who also responded to the incident, assisted the victims with filing the police report. Giving them a ride to and from the police precinct. Both the victims and the responding officers thanked the Shomrim members for their assistance.
