CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — It has been the talk of town for a week, six Crown Heights men who volunteer in Shomrim facing jail time for an alleged brawl in which Jews pressed charges against them. Many were taken aback by the inaction on behalf of the rabbinic authorities in the community, but that changed on Erev Shabbos.

Rabbis Avrohom Osdoba, Shlomo Yehuda Segal, and Yitzchok Raitport issued a summons to a Din Torah to five of those involved in what they called “the terrible sin informing on Jews to the secular courts.” Those summoned included Levi Paul Huebner, an attorney for Shmira, who Shomrim claim has been pursuing them by making frivolous police reports and bringing civil actions against the organization and its individual members. As well as four of the Tzfati Bochurim who are the ones pursuing the actual charges, Elkon Moshe Gurfinkel, Zalman Bronshtein, Schneir Rotem, and Yakov Shatz.

CH Beis Din Takes Initiative, Calls Bochurim to Din Torah and Issues Psak

In the Beis Dins summons the Rabbonim issued a clear directive stating “according to our torahs laws and customs this is prohibited,” and ordering all those involved to immediately cease all actions relating to the police and the secular courts, which are not the rule of torah, immediately.

The Din Torah is scheduled to take place tonight, Sunday at 9:00pm, due to the urgency of the matter.

“We have little confidence that [the Bochurim] will show up” said Aron Hershkop, who spoke on behalf of those involved “they spread rumors that they offered us peace and that we refused, it is a lie!”

Hershkop added that he wished they show up and the whole matter can get resolved amicably. “There is clearly a driving force behind these Bochurim who told them not to sit down with us” he said, adding “that at one point we even had a meeting time set up one evening but they never showed up, and the following day two police detectives along with Levi Huebner showed up at my place of work and warned me that any contact I have with the Bochurim would be considered witness tampering and that I would be locked up.”

“So you tell me, who doesn’t want peace?” concluded Hershkop.

On the other side of things, Shomrim reported an amazing outpouring of support from Crown Heights residents as well as many from Boro Park and Flatbush who donated money to the Shomrim Defense Fund to help out with the legal fees.

  • phoenixyid

totally blown away – did not realize how bad it was – I was advised BP and W divisions will get involved to bring this to an end.

This is not to be believed in our schuna and totally warped.

unfortunately with a heavy heart I say shame on the yellow/meschist crowd – this is a scar and blemish that will always stain and erased any good, if any, that one could have said for these diehards.

    I rest my case.

  • awacs

At last! Sanity begins to reassert itself. I hope it’s not too late to help the Shomrim Six.

  • Shame On PAUL................

The source of the problems aren’t so much the 4 bochurim it’s their so called lawyer the vermin known as ‘Paul’.
He’s the MOISER behind all this, He’s the one that should
be ex-communicated. He’s the one instigating. He’s the one promising the bochurim big bucks in a civil suit to follow once the Shomrim boys are convicted in criminal court.
This is from one of the bochurim himself.

  • Shomrim Six Supporter (SSS)

I am so happy and relieved that the Rabbonim are asserting themselves – they do have power!
With Hashem’s help, this will all be resolved and those involved will be under a cherem and flee the country – maybe to Uzbekistan or something…. Tibet, too.

Be there Monday to show your support to the Shomrim Six!

  • Uh Oh the truth is coming

I was sitting in a home on Carroll a while back when our town was riled up due to various crime happening when the issue of Shomrim Shmira peace came up.

Our dear “freind” Dov Hikind Said these words.

“I and many others have approached both organizations so far shmira has agreed to make peace but Shomrim refused”

    i was appalled. disgusted.

i approached dov after the meeting outside and asked him.

“you made a statement about shomrim, a very misleading one, one that was very hurtful you said they refused to make peace. can you tell me more about that to WHY THEY DIDNT AGREE?”

You see, dov and many others have made statements, hurtful ones some far from the truth while others bending the truth.

NO SHOMRIM DID NOT AGREE TO DISMANTLE THEIR ORGANIZATION TO MAKE PEACE, HOW EVER THEY DO WANT TO MAKE PEACE AND STOP THIS FIGHTING.

its so unfortunate when the case that “THEY” thought would settle and stay out of court has gone as far as it did, you see had it been settled truth about what happened would be for ever untold and many people would speculate on it.

Now that it has gone to court the truth must come out and OY that video… yeh the one were it is said how shomrim did all these horrible things is going to be shown, OY whats going to happen to our convincing stories that we told with this “video” backing our statements…

Whats going to happen to YOUR OWN MEMBERS, the ones you sat with by a emergency meeting with after 749 and spewed your hate and brainwashed then that Shomrim did this that and the other, “with video to back it.”

  • Besuros Tovos

It’s nice to know that the Rabbonim have finally woken up, albeit at this late hour…
May Hashem bring you a complete victory!

  • gaga googoo

So now all they need is rabbi shvei to say that they dont have to go….

and the merry go round will continue to turn

  • Kol haKavod to our Beis Din!

I am pleased to say that my heart rate is bumping up.
Our own Beis Din is gonna help!

  • Beis Din or no Beis Din

The final decision however remains with the DA if he will drop the charges.

  • Save the Shomrim Six!!!!

    To phoenixyid

As long as these sick low-lives scream Yechi & wave their flags they can do whatever they want. Keeping Halachas, following the way of the Rebbe is irrelevant to them. They know nothing about Chassidus or the Rebbe, they only know Yechi. I blame Labkowsky & his pals for giving the Tsfatim papers year after year after year so they can come here & destroy what little bit we have left of a functioning Shechuna.

    “The Shmorim Six”…catchy title!

  • oy vey

TO: Bais din or no Bais din

your right the DA has the final call and them going to bais din WILL NOT stop the case from trial.

WE as community members cant associate our selves with those who are involved, we cant support them or their moisdos who are behind this.

a bais din at this point IS a important part of this story.

  • OUR COMUNITY LOST, YETZER HARA WON

Wednesday night after arriving back from court Shomrim hotline rang with a call for HELP a bocher was getting thrown out of his room…
POOR GUY, HEES WITH OUT A BED… SHOMRIM WONT RESPOND

  • Please Post Pictutre of the MOISERIM

evry one shoulf know who are they faces they should be a shame

  • Someone who loves another Jew

Remember their parents are also to blame. Parents shape their kids lives and the way parents treat their children has an effect on them when they grow up. If I were shomrim I would contact all those tzfati parents in israel or wherever they live and those parents should threaten their kids that they will not have anything to do with them if they dont stop the charges.

But remember at the end of the day everything is between them and hashem. Maybe their is a gazeira against these guys and it was meant to come through these bochurim. All we need to do on our part is have achdus and pray as hard as we can to stop this gezeira. I have noticed as an outsider not from New York that everytime i read crown heights.info all I hear is people telling the other person off and so much sinas chinum. You do not hear much about sinas chinum in broro park or williamburg. Hashem destroyed the beis hamikdash becuase of sinas chinum and if every one in the whole ommunity were to have achdus no matter what your background is or what shul you go to than maybe these gezeiros would not fall upon the community of crown heights (the rebbes community).
Please lets all have achdus and maybe we can help these shomrim members with hashems help. Say tehillim!!!!

  • curious

has anyone noticed that SHMAIS.COM is not reporting any of this. This is kind of weird especially when they are also a crownheights news based website. Unless I am completely wrong but will someone inform the CEO of shmais of what is going on unless he is neutral or on the other side of things.

  • shmais

note shmais has a paid ad by shmira on the left of his site
he will loose the ad if he posts about it.

  • someone in the know

There is a bus going to the ohel at 3:30 today if anyone wants to daven to Hashem and ask the Rebbe for peace in the community!
    I’ll be there, will you?

  • avid blog watcher

    Dear curious

Shmais steers clear of controversy. Not because he’s “on the other side” but because as a matter of policy he doesn’t get embroiled in any machloykes. As you say, he’s neutral. I am sure he has his own opinions…you can always ask him, and he can choose not to answer. That’s his right. I don’t think it’s appropriate for Shmais to be dragged into this mess. These are two different sites that both do a great service to the community & tackle different issues in different ways. I am sure CH.info doesn’t want to start more controversy & argument on something that has nothing to do with them: how other sites are run.

  • shame on the israeli websites

now we can see how this col and shturem and chabad.info are all the same none of them has put this psak of ch bais din online.
    shame on all of them

  • To avid blog watcher

If Shmais steers clear of this controversy, why does he give free advertising to shmirah on his site?

  • Concerned

    My opinion is that
If Rabbbi Schwai and Rabbi Heller would come out with a letter they would pull out.

  • Mendy

Its amazing to me how the rabbanim make the effort to focus on the concept of mesirah rather than the source of the prob of the safety and politics going on within the community. Where are their priorities?

  • awacs

Has anyone inquired from the Rabbanim about the application of the din in Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat 388:10, which states that it is applicable these days?

  • a discusted resident of CH

I am very distressed to see how people can go to a goyishe court and maser on other yidden. If we would have only sent these stupid tzfati bochurim back when they started making trouble to where they belong, we would have a lot less trouble in our community. If we don’t send them back now we will only have more and more trouble from them.

  • S Chein

I cant beleive this. i dont beleive in “hent” but to go to courts and mosser. is out of the question we have rabbonim for that. we are chasidim chabad. shame! shame! who is this hubener guy?

  • Concerned

This is going on a long time, why did Shomrim wait all this time to contact the rabbonim ???
One thing is for sure Shomrim learnt not to get involved in a Bochurim dispute which rightfully belongs to the Hanhala.
As per previous TB OUR COMUNITY LOST, YETZER HARA WON

I would call it SHOMRIM LEARNT ITS LESSON, Has nothing to do with the well being of the community

  • To concerned

The well-being of the community is intertwined with the well-being of its members, especially members of an organization dedicated to protecting the community.
