Florida Gov. Visits Chabad Center to Light Menorah

Florida Governor Rick Scott visited Chabad of South Broward Headquarters in Hallandale Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, December 17, and participated in a Menorah lighting at the Chai Tots Preschool Chanukah Party and Presentation.

The Governor was greeted by Rabbi and Mrs. Raphael and Goldie Tennenhaus, co-directors of Chabad of South Broward.

The Governor was accompanied by his lieutenant governor, Mr. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, and several other members from the Governor’s office.

Greeting the Governor were the children, parents, grandparents, great grandparents and teachers of the Chai Tots Preschool, one of the fastest growing Preschools in South Florida.

Hosting the event were: Mrs. Endi Tennenhaus, Preschool Director; Rabbi Moshe Schwartz, Chabad’s Administrator for 27 years; Rabbi Mendy Tennenhaus, Chabad’s Director of Development; Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Lebovics, Principals of the Chaya Aydel Seminary; and Rabbi and Mrs. Levi Tennenhaus, Directors of Hebrew School, CTeen and The Friendship Circle.

Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus presented the Governor with the “Excellence in Education Award” for his efforts in the Step-Up Program and for his love and dedication to children and to Israel.

Rabbi Tennenhaus told the Governor and the 200 participants about the expansion of the State of Florida Jerusalem Campus currently under construction. He also addressed how the lights of the Menorah represents the ultimate victory of good over evil, light over darkness and an end of terror and tyranny.

Rabbi Lebovics sang the Brochos over the Menorah, with the Governor lighting the Shamesh and Judge Grossman lighting the first candle. He also led in the singing of “G-d Bless America.”

The Governor was very moved by receiving the Award, watching the children recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing Chanukah songs, and by participating in the Menorah lighting.

Among the Community Leaders present were Hallandale Mayor Joy Cooper, Commissioner Keith London, Commissioner Anthony Sanders and many South Broward Business Leaders.

The Governor spoke to the principals and to each and every student of the Chaya Aydel Seminary. The Governor participated in last years’ Chanukah Festival at Gulfstream and encourages everyone to participate this year as well, on Monday, December 22, featuring Avraham Fried.  For more Chanukah Festival information, please visit Chanukahfestival.com.
