Israeli President Tours ‘Schneersohn Library’

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who arrived in Moscow yesterday for a two-day state visit to Russia, was given a tour this morning of the Jewish Museum of Tolerance, which houses the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe’s library of Seforim that was confiscated by the Soviet Union.

The museum is located next door to Chabad’s headquarters in Moscow, the Marina Roscha synagogue, and is operated under the auspices of the Russian government and Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar.

Amid a lengthy court battle with Chabad headquarters in New York over the library, the Russian government agreed to transfer the collection to the care of Chabad in Russia, to be housed in the Museum which was personally financed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
