Boy Volunteers Kick Off the Year at Friendship Circle

50 Bochurim who have committed to give up one hour a week of their free time to spend time with children with special needs this coming year have gathered together for a special kickoff event with The Friendship Circle of Brooklyn.

The Friendship Circle’s Boys’ division – Boys over 10 and young adults with special needs, will have Bochurim from local Yeshivos visit their homes, learn with them at Yeshiva and a host of programs and activities planned for the coming year.

The Bochurim were treated to ‘Subway Style’ dinner, and heard from Mrs. Tzirl Goldman, founder of the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn, herself a parent of a young adult with special needs. Mrs. Goldman impressed upon the volunteers the importance of the task they have taken upon themselves, relating a story of a volunteer who would visit the office regularly, requesting ideas for what to do during his weekly visit. One week the Bochur returned to the office, as if a light bulb went on, saying, “Mrs. Goldman, I got it! All he wants is for me to be his friend!”

Yossi Smoller, Coordinator of the Boys’ division, emphasized the importance of dedication and consistency, explaining that what a FC volunteer learns and gains during this experience is priceless and will last a lifetime.

The evening concluded with Rabbi Berel Majesky thanking the volunteers for taking upon themselves this Shlichus.
