Head of Israeli Parliament Visits Petersburg Synagogue

Mr. Reuben Rivlin, the Israeli Knesset’s speaker, accompanied by knesset members Mr. Chaim Katz and Mr. Robert Elituv and many dignitaries – arrived last week for a formal visit to the Jewish Community of St. Petersburg, Russia.

During their formal visit, also accompanied by the local consul of the Israeli embassy and executives from the foreign ministry, they met local officials such as the city’s governor and the head of the local parliament and also the city’s Rabbi, Rabbi Mendel Pevzner, and head of community, Mr. Mark Grober.

The delegation expressed their great appreciation of the community’s activities and the FJC’s vast activities throughout the entire FSU.

The visit included tours of the local parliament and the community’s great synagogue, considered one of the most remarkable synagogues in the world.
