Holocaust Survivor Holds Up Sign: ‘Mir Zeinen Do’

At the million-man demonstration in Paris against Islamic terrorism yesterday, one elderly man – a survivor of the Holocaust – stood holding a small sign with a striking message in Yiddish: ‘Mir Zeinen Do’ (we are here).

Paris Shliach Rebbi Menachem Ladaev noticed the man and his peculiar sign, and approached him to hear his story.

The man tearfully explained that his family members were partisans fighting the Nazis during the Holocaust. They had a song which they sang during their struggle for liberation, which contained these words.

He came to the protest, along with his daughter and granddaughter, with a sign bearing these words, he said, to show the world that no matter how many times they try to annihilate the Jewish people – ‘Mir Zeinen Do’ – we are still here.

Seeing this sign brought me chills asI instantly knew what this was referring to. I’m positive the shliach knew the meaning of it too. I should hope most shluchim are educated about the holocaust.
