Talmidim HaShluchim Gather for Luncheon and Seminar

A gathering for Bochurim heading out on ‘Yeshiva Shluchus’ this coming year was held in Crown Heights’ Maple Street Shul. The event was organized by Unzere Kinder, an organization that provides Talmidim Hashluchim with assistance, support and advice for their vital work with junior Yeshiva students and local Baalei Batim.

The Bochurim were greeted cordially at the Maple St. Shul this past Sunday, with the young and promising Talmidim HaShluchim coming together for the Unzere Kinder Luncheon and Seminar.

The crowd swelled in the quaint shul, with over 60 budding Shluchim in attendance.

As the boys looked ahead to their upcoming duties, there was a great sense of interest in the air, each understanding the tremendous power and privilege that is being entrusted in them.

Rabbi Shmuly Avtzon, Mashpia in Chovevei Torah, began the proceedings, welcoming all who attended, elaborating on the program and its goals and introducing Rabbi Mendy Schapiro from Los Angeles.

Rabbi Schapiro touched upon the subject of “Thinking like a Shliach,” explaining to the bochurim exactly what The Rebbe expects from his Shluchim, and stressing to the boys the importance of being a “living example” and keeping Seder scrupulously.

Rabbi Z. L. Markowitz then took to the podium, drawing attention to the responsibility of every Shliach to care for each bochur individually and on a personal level, reminding them that sometimes bochurim find it easier to confide in their Shluchim as opposed to members of the Hanhala or even their parents.

Next, the floor was given to Rabbi Mendel Duchman, who urged the Shluchim to make their Shlichus feel relevant and meaningful to the community and how important it is to forge connections with people in the community at large.

Ari Raskin then relayed to the crowd his personal experiences of growing up surrounded by fantastic Shluchim, explaining the power of a Shliach’s behavior and pointing out how Shluchim are under constant surveillance by the bochurim.

The event concluded with a Question & Answer Session, with the panel fielding questions from the audience, followed by a crash course in Windows Excel given by Mendel Ginsburg.

Each bochur in attendance left the event with a USB drive containing valuable Mivtzas for their upcoming Shlichus.

The Luncheon is only one of the many programs instituted by Unzere Kinder, with forums, webcasts and monetary assistance also planned.

The beautiful event was dedicated in memory of Mrs. Tzivia Zaklas, OBM, an exemplary human being and a passionate educator.
