Aguch Finalizes Purchase of 760 Eastern Parkway

On Monday, Agudas Chasidei Chabad finalized the purchase of 760 Eastern Parkway from the Itkin family. In a statement on Lubavitch.com Rabbi Yehudah Krinsky confirmed the purchase and announced the intention to expand the Rebbes Library.

From Lubavitch.com

Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Chairman of the educational and social services divisions of Chabad-Lubavitch, and secretary of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, announced the closing Monday morning of the purchase of 760 Eastern Parkway. The property is adjacent to 766 Eastern Parkway, which houses the world class library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad.

The newly acquired property will be annexed to the historic library containing one of the largest private collections of Judaica, including manuscripts, books, responsa, letters and artifacts dating back to the collection of the founder of the Chabad movement Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, (1745-1812), and all subsequent Chabad Rebbes.

The library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad was transferred from Russia by Rabbi Joseph I. Schneersohn in 1940, when he relocated the headquarters of Chabad-Lubavitch to New York, at 770 Eastern Parkway. In 1967, it was moved from 770 to the adjacent building at 766 Eastern Parkway.

The new purchase will allow the library to further grow its collection, which has become an important resource for scholars and historians worldwide.

  • There is a boss

Another win for the boss and his his institutions may it bring further wins in the other areanas.

  • declasse' intelectual

And, G-d Willing sometime in the future negotiations–not threats or law suits–will unite those items from Eastern Europe and Russia under one building

  • nice

    to number one.

its not that they gave it away….

you would think thoses “fabreneins” would have some chasidshe outcome,

to # 5 it was a mater of highest bidder, no holy meaning on the sellers part. they would have gone wither way

    • absurd

I am 101 percent certain that less than 1 percent of your income this year was donated to Merkos. You would think that after criticizing a family for not giving away 100 percent of their yerusha to merkos l’inyonei chinuch, you would have what to show for your own hypocritical disgraceful miserable self.

Now for objective folk, there were two entities very interested to have the building. Merkos and Hendel. The Itkins chose not to sell to Hendel despite being able to get much more $$$$ from him (backed by Drizin’s legendary wealth). So easy to say if it was mine I would just toss the Rebbe the keys and say enjoy, it’s on me. I challenge one Itkin critic to take $2,000,000 and just wire it to merkos. I’m not holding my breath.

“you would think thoses “fabreneins” would have some chasidshe outcome” – so when are you giving away YOUR house? And if you have a bit of chassidishkeit, I expect your car too!

The end of comment #5 was really uncalled for.

Mazel Tov on the purchase. May we greet Moshiach in true Ahavas Yisroel and Achdus Yisroel, as true Chassidim of the Rebbe.

  • to #8:

If you were sitting on a yerusha that was that valuable, would you just give it away? I don’t think anybody would.
The monies from this purchase will be supporting a family who are mostly on Shlichus and could use the money for the Rebbe’s holy work.
    Mazel Tov to all involved.

  • to 11 and 9

calm down. no one said they should give it away.

they had a deal with merkos for a lesser amount and they had a deal that bot shook hands on. one member of the family got advise from a realtive in crown heights who is a real estate person, to pitch the house to the maschistin, and the biding war began, the itkins backed out of the deal from merkos.

drizin was NOT going to give unlimited funds for this project.

merkos raised the needed funds to continue bidding, and finaly won.

this was strictly bussnes for the itkin family, and dont white wash it that the money will go for holly things etc.

  • Facts

It is a sorry and pathetic atatement about Lubavitch that people believed the rumors that were flying about the Itkin family and the house. Most were not true, just the opposite. There are people who believe that bashmutzing and stronghodling is a way to bully people to do what they want. It boomeranged against them unfortunately…

  • Shame

    To itkin supporters.

Bottom line is what is most important. And that is that itkins made a few million bucks. And gave up a house next to 770. I’m sure the grandchdren will be real proud

  • price

The sold the house bellow real market value
IOW the Itkin family made a huge donation to AGUCH ,most probably the highest donation from these times

  • To 16

Are you forgetting this house was up for bid?
They sold it to the biggest bidder. Period…

No tzidkis. No chasidshkiet. No frumkiet. Just the highest bidder.

As they are entitled to. If they so feel

False. You guessed it or got it wrong
They didn’t sell it to the highest bid
When they listed with the realtor,It was an starting offer for 2.5 million( a group friend of mine made this offer to Shoshana Tal) Then Hendel made a higher offer ( I dunno but think around 3 million) and at that time they didn’t have a price. If they wanted ,they could have set an asking price of 5 million and wait. They didn’t ,and sold it for much less than real value to Aguch

  • moshe

You can’t blame the itkins that their agent disseminated a lie about drizins 3 million dollars. There was never an offer from drizin. It was just a negotiating tactic created by the agent.

  • to 19

    lies.

there was agreemnet with Merkos which Itkin backed out of.

it was then put up for bid….and highest payer won

  • I know

Unfortunately the Itkins like many other families in Lubavitch are victims of politics and shmuts that should NEVER be allowed to happen.

  • 4 million

Today’s value is around 4 million
They sold it for much less
    They did a great mitzva!

Every single homeowner MUST donate their home, or sell it below market value, to “Aguch”, “TZACH”, “OT” or “BMG”.

If you do not – it proves that you are not a dedicated Lubavitcher (maybe even a snag like me).

Also, donate your car to me, since I can have better use of it than you and I am more deserving of it than you.

    • Uh?

Why should they donate their houses to BMG (Bais Medrash Gavoah – Lakewood)???

That does not make any sence.

In fact, donating homes bichlal dosen’t make sense!

And those that say selling the house for fair market value is wrong – don’t make sense!

      Oh, is that your point?????

This proves the danger of doing business with Aguch or any other mossad. Keep away from them or face the court of public opinion. Doing business with a community mossad makes you the villain.

Everyone must learn from this! Good people get their reputation sullied because they engaged in business with a mossad. They would be better off selling it to goyim!
