Children of Single Mothers Treated to Day of Fun

This past Sunday, Jan 19th (18 Shvat), My Extended Family held its 2nd event under the leadership of Rabbi Yoseph Vigler at Mayan Yisroel of Flatbush. My Extended Family is a new division of Mayan Yisroel, and was created to become a support group for frum single mothers and their children in the 5 boroughs.

The children had the opportunity to design their own yarmulkas with Golda Orenstein and create their own jewelry with Ruti Horn. They were also entertained by a fascinating and educational reptile show provided by Snakes & Scales.

Levana Kirschenbaum did a cooking demonstration for the mothers. She taught them how to prepare easy, healthy, kid-friendly meals and everyone got to taste her delectable dishes.

A big thank you goes to the volunteers of the 8th and 9th grades of Bais Rivkah and Bnos Menachem. They came with smiles on their faces, were enthusiastic to help and truly made a kiddush hashem.

Kudos to Rabbi Vigler. Noe, can we make an event for children of single parents. Some shiduchim might come out of it.

    • Issue

There is a serious problem with this mentality. Children of single parents are fit to marry anyone of any background. Shadchanim who try to match up men and women whose parents are divorced as if they are damaged goods need to retire.

  • Great!

“It takes a village to raise a child”. Happy to see this! May more programs of this nature follow. Hatzlocha Rabba!
