As a bus driver with 9 years of experience, I say.

If the streets are not absolutely black and clear of ice, DO NOT take out those buses.

At one point several years ago, before being employed at Beth Rivkah, I drove for a school in BP.
One winter day there was a small snow of about two to three inches, some time during the night the temperatures dropped and the soft snow turned to ice.

Despite this the next morning, we had school. I’m driving down a BP street really really slow (15 miles), I’m half way 3/4 down the block, the light turns red, I brake, the bus does not stop, people are crossing the street in front of me, I’m beeping, they aren’t paying attention..thank g-d they make it across safely…the bus comes to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection, thank G-d there wasn’t any other vehicles passing that intersection.

An experience I will never forget.

Besides, its Friday, a short school day, by the time the bus reaches school with all the children, it’s time to reload and go home.
