Man Indicted for Killing Girlfriend in Crown Heights Crash

A 20-year-old man has been indicted with killing his girlfriend in a fatal car crash in Crown Heights last month, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office announced this week.

Brandon Craigwell of East Flatbush ran a red light in his 1994 Honda Civic, drove 60 mph into oncoming traffic and swerved into multiple parked cars on St. Johns Place between Rogers and Nostrand avenues before the June 2, the district attorney said.

Craigwell’s girlfriend, 20-year-old Shana-Kayes Khans, who was in the passenger seat, flew out of the car’s rear window during the crash. She was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

Craigwell was arrested on July 23 and indicted Thursday on nine charges including second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, prosecutors said.

Craigwell is being held on $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond. His next court date has not yet been set, the district attorney’s office said.
