Car Stop Turns to Chaos as Driver Flees Cops

A wild scene unfolded in Crown Heights today when police officers attempted to pull over a 15-passenger van. As police approached the van, the driver made a u-turn, struck a police car and number of other cars and fled. The suspect was eventually apprehended.

The incident began on Montgomery Street just off Kingston Avenue. Police officers pulled over the van for not have a registration sticker on its out-of-state license plate. At first, the driver pulled to the side, but as the officer approached the van, the driver began fleeing by making a u-turn and going the wrong way down Montgomery St..

In the process of fleeing, the van struck the police cruiser and a minivan, and as it approached the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue, it collided with an SUV – which lost control and smashed into a parked car. The van also lost control and smashed into another parked car a little further down Brooklyn Avenue, near Empire Boulevard.

In all, 6 vehicles were damaged in the chaos.

One woman, the driver of the SUV, was hurt in the collision, but thankfully did not sustain any serious injuries.

Thanks to a number of witnesses, who spotted the suspect buying a sweatshirt inside Family Dollar on Lefferts Ave. and tipped off the police, the suspect was apprehended a short while later.

Police are investigatng why the man fled, as well as reports that there was another person in the vehicle.

Contrary to rumors going around, there does not appear to have been a gun involved in the incident, aside for those pulled out by police officers while the van fled.

There must be more to this story, all this mayhem because his vehicle was lacking a registration sticker?

I’m the “woman driver of the SUV” I was actually hit by the police officer, not the suspect. I am thankful to God that no one was severely hurt and I commend the officers for doing a great job so quickly and catching this guy… Things could have been much worse.

  • saw it

i saw the van smash the cop car and drive down montgomery after the cop whipped out his gun. and he also hit a white car not a van and he was coming up kingston not montgomery when he hit the cop car

I basically agree with you, and I for one do not label ALL black people because of this one incident. But I can say I understand where this Mendel is coming from. My house has been broken into, robbed and ransacked seven times, I had a lingerie store which was robbed as well. My car was broken into twice as was my duaghters car. In her car they stole her brand new Tom Tom gps the first time, and the second time they stole the airbag. my neighbor had her daughter’s bike stollen in broad daylight. More recently, I’ve lost count of the number of Iphones that unfortunately, were ripped out of the hands of – my friends on the street, by black teens. Both male and female. So, how would YOU feel?
Yet, (inspite of all that) on the other hand when I came home from work one day and saw my “black” neighbor’s son standing on the street holding a rag to his arm and being told by his mother to walk to Kingsbrook hospital for stitches to a knife wound caused by his own brother, I did not hesitate for a second but put him in my car and drove him to the hospital myself. I did not look at the color of his skin. He was simply a human being in need of assistance and I did what any decent person would do, and didn’t label ALL blacks as bad.
