Infant, 2 Adults Hurt After SUV Blows Through Red Light

Two SUVs collided in a busy Brooklyn Avenue intersection, leaving the driver of one vehicle and a mother and her infant child in the other hurt. There infant was not strapped into a car seat.

The crash occurred at around 12:30pm in the intersection of Brooklyn and East New York Avenues. A number of eye witnesses gave conflicting reports as to who went through a red light. Nevertheless, the result was three injuries, one of them an infant child.

The driver of the black BMW refused medical attention. His passengers – the woman with her child in the back seat – were initially treated by Hatzalah, who caused a big Kiddush Hashem and were later taken over by EMS when they arrived. There was no child car seat in the BMW. Other Hatzalah volunteers treated the female driver of the black Mercury SUV, and later transported her to Kings County Hospital.

The driver of the Mercury SUV said that she had a steady green light, and was broadsided “out of nowhere” by the BMW taking the red light.
